Background / History

Hongjun was a late-awakening Chaos Demon God whose original form was a Qu She. During the Creation Tribulation, Li Xinghe urged Pangu to split him vertically, an event that made Hongjun deeply wary of Li Xinghe and the Chaos Pearl from the beginning. 30 460

In the early Primordial era, Hongjun held fragments of the shattered Jade Plate of Creation, a Chaos Supreme Treasure he could not fully comprehend or wield. Li Xinghe had already taken some fragments during the world’s creation, depriving Hongjun of part of that opportunity. 17 39

Hongjun initially sought to intervene when Tongtian was attacked by the Ancestral Dragon, apparently intending to earn Tongtian’s favor through a rescue. Li Xinghe arrived first, however, and Hongjun withdrew rather than expose himself. 30

During the Dao-Demon Conflict, Hongjun recruited Yang Mei, Karma, Yin Yang, and Qiankun to fight Luohu. He offered them temporary access to Jade Plate fragments and made a Great Dao oath to secure their cooperation, while secretly intending to use the conflict to eliminate powerful Demon Gods and obtain their treasures. 49 52 53

After the conflict, Hongjun received Heavenly Dao Merit for vowing to restore the West’s spiritual veins. He merged his three corpses, became the first Saint of the Primordial World, and later merged with the Heavenly Dao. 52 54 He preached in the Purple Heaven Palace, accepted six disciples, distributed Primordial Violet Qi, and established himself as the central authority over the Primordial World. 75 76

Hongjun’s authority steadily eroded as Li Xinghe, the Human Dao, and the Earthly Dao challenged the Heavenly Dao’s supremacy. He increasingly relied on the Heavenly Dao Origin, hidden Qu She clones, and the imprisoned creatures of the upper heavens to preserve his position. 244 414 417

After the collapse of his position in the Primordial World, Hongjun transferred his Primordial Spirit into a Qu She clone. His immortal clone remained behind, while his true body escaped into Chaos. 420 He later entered the Hunyuan World with Laozi and Yuanshi, separated from them to conceal his identity, and began devouring cultivators to regain power. 448 450

Hongjun temporarily allied with Luohu against Gu Jinghong, then survived with only half of his Qu She body after Li Xinghe’s intervention. His other half escaped toward the Primordial Great World. 455 456 460 He later became Devouring Venerable’s disciple, cultivated through mass devouring, and ultimately devoured his own master. 534 622

When cornered by Li Xinghe and Luohu, Hongjun comprehended the Devouring Great Dao and entered the Great Dao Realm. Despite this breakthrough, Li Xinghe defeated and killed him using Chaos Divine Thunder, the World Pearl, and the combined power of his clones. 624 625 626 627

Personality

Hongjun was exceptionally calculating and patient. He used rare treasures, vows, discipleship, political appointments, and factional divisions to place others in his debt or under his control. His recruitment of the Demon Gods during the Dao-Demon Conflict was founded on rewards he never intended to honor in good faith. 49 52

He was cautious around threats he could not confidently defeat. He concealed his strength and clones, avoided openly confronting Li Xinghe when disadvantageous, and repeatedly prepared escape routes—including dividing his Qu She body and leaving half of it elsewhere. 30 244 420 460

His desire to dominate and transcend the Primordial World eventually eclipsed his role as its protector. He secretly cultivated Devouring Laws, used his disciples as assets, considered devouring the Primordial World, and threatened Nuwa to force Fuxi and Li Xinghe into submission. 406 417
