Background and History

Shrek Academy had stood on the continent for roughly twenty thousand years as its foremost academy. Its influence extended beyond its own faculty and students: graduates were spread through other organizations and commonly retained loyalty to their alma mater, allowing Shrek to mobilize support during major crises. 143

The academy’s prestige rested on concentrating elite talent. Its stated philosophy was to accept only “monsters,” while its Inner Court held substantially greater resources than the Outer Court. Outer Court students were not core disciples, and social connections were portrayed as nearly as important there as cultivation. 174 185

Shrek’s campus and surrounding student districts functioned with unusual independence within Shrek City. The academy appointed its own guards, maintained its own rules, and controlled the city’s inner tier, while the wider city extended beyond its academy-centered districts. 198 324

Known Leadership

Conflict with Spirit Creation Academy

Spirit Creation Academy was founded by the Spirit Pagoda specifically to challenge Shrek’s long-standing dominance. Its Life Contract program, extensive resources, and more inclusive admissions policy became direct alternatives to Shrek’s elite-only model. 143 147 185

Lin Xuan used a public challenge at Shrek’s Outer Court to associate the new academy with Shrek’s reputation. Spirit Creation Academy’s students defeated a Shrek gate guard, and the event was heavily publicized by waiting reporters. 175 176

The initial inter-academy contest included a singles match between Wang Jinxi and Yuanen Yehui. Wang Jinxi followed instructions to defend without attacking, producing a draw rather than a clear victory for either academy; a seven-person team competition was then arranged. 178 179 180

Spirit Creation Academy subsequently invited Shrek students to exchange there and openly advertised Life Contracts, Soul Beast partnerships, Mecha Design courses, and admission opportunities for ordinary people as well as Soul Masters. Shrek’s leadership recognized the recruitment campaign as a serious threat to its talent pool. 185 203

Years later, Shrek itself approached Spirit Creation Academy to seek Life Contracts for its students. Yun Ming offered valuable resources and a map to Devil Island in exchange for an opportunity to attempt the contracts. 257

Destruction and Decline

A large-scale assault on Shrek City began with Soul Tool artillery launched from the city’s outer tier. The Holy Spirit Cult’s attack endangered the academy, its students, and the Golden Ancient Tree. 323 324

Spirit Pagoda forces ultimately intervened, rescuing civilians and confronting the threat of the Eternal Kingdom. The Golden Ancient Tree awakened and absorbed the weapon’s destructive energy, preventing the immediate destruction of Shrek City. 326

Despite this intervention, the attack devastated Shrek Academy and caused the death of the continent’s strongest Soul Master, Sky Pillar Douluo. More than half of Shrek’s senior officials later died, leaving the academy short of leadership and struggling to preserve its reputation. 330 338

The weakened academy faced repeated external pressure: challengers questioned its standing, opportunistic academies demanded compensation, and its remaining students lacked the strength and support to retaliate effectively. 338 343 344

By this period, Long Yeyue was missing, Cai Yue'er was incapacitated, and Ya Li was attempting to maintain morale amid a shrinking student body and Shrek’s diminished political standing. 343
