Background / History
Su Yun was born in Qingyu Town after the clouds in the sky mysteriously vanished during his birth; his father named him Yun (“cloud”) for this event. Strange winds, eerie energies, and ominous phenomena followed him from infancy, leading villagers to believe he was a demon reborn. When he was six, his parents sold him to Qu Jin and others for experimentation after the birth of his younger brother, Su Ye. His memories of that period were sealed. 924
He grew up blind in Tianshiyuan’s no-man’s-land, living among ghosts, demons, and the people of the Ghost Market. Much of his childhood was built on deception, yet he formed lasting attachments to those around him and later chose to protect Tianshiyuan despite learning the truth. 22 984
After visiting Uncle Cen’s grave, Su Yun learned that Uncle Cen was a Sage leaving for the divine path. Cen left him a rope that allowed him to continue entering the Night Market. There, Su Yun learned the identity of Qiu Xiaomei’s killer and resolved to confront him. 12
Su Yun entered Shuofang as part of Qiu Shuijing’s group, became a Spirit Scholar, and placed first in the entrance grand examination. His success allowed him and his fox-demon classmates to preserve their identities as Tiandao Academy scholars. 44 55 113
Years later, Su Yun returned to Qingyu Town searching for his family. He discovered that they had moved to the Eastern Capital after selling him, then traveled there to find Su Ye. Although he met his brother and gave him money, Su Ye did not recognize him. 203 208
Appearance
Su Yun is a handsome young man with delicate features, red lips, white teeth, fair skin, and a well-proportioned physique. As he matures, his initially youthful and sunny manner gains a composed, weathered quality shaped by his long cultivation and experiences. 212 520 959
- Was blind during his childhood in Tianshiyuan; the Yellow Bell allowed him to measure the world through time rather than sight. 100
- Has bright, clear eyes after recovering his vision. 212 520
- Can manifest multiple Heavenly Eyes, including Daoist and Buddhist Heavenly Eyes placed above his eyebrows. 103
- Later gains a vertical eye between his brows and can manifest the Yinglong Heavenly Eye. 292 660
- His Yinglong transformation grants him a dragon body with denser bones and muscles. 252
Personality
Su Yun is optimistic, relationship-oriented, and strongly attached to the people and places that shaped him. Though his childhood was marked by abandonment, experimentation, and deception, he refuses to let his thoughts sink into darkness; he values those who create opportunities for ordinary people to study and live with dignity. 242 984
He is direct, principled, and unwilling to accept elite politicking when it conflicts with justice. He publicly challenged Lin Qingsheng after learning of his role in the murder of Su Yun’s fellow villager, choosing open retaliation over compromise. 81
Despite his fearsome reputation, Su Yun does not view himself as especially calculating. Others often mistake his decisiveness, unusual survival, and rapid progress for hidden schemes, while those close to him regard him as unusually straightforward. 127 135
Su Yun is also intensely curious and analytical. He studies opponents’ techniques in battle, investigates historical mysteries, and seeks to improve his cultivation through observation, experimentation, and discussion. 68 153 290
