The Last Day
In the snow.
Huus followed behind Ailin, stumbling along, and after glancing at Vesemir at the front, quietly asked:
"Ailin, the Trial of the Mountains is tomorrow. Why did Master Vesemir bring us out at this time?"
Fred and Bont walked beside him, also quietly pricking up their ears.
"You'll find out when you get there."
Ailin smiled mysteriously, keeping everyone in suspense.
Upon hearing this, Huus hesitated, as if he wanted to say something but then stopped himself.
He knew that if Ailin wasn't going to talk, there was no way to get him to open his mouth.
So, while cursing himself for being so talkative, he felt a ticklish sensation all over his body, as if covered in fuzz, and he wriggled forward.
"Arrive!"
Vesemir's voice came from ahead.
Apart from Ailin, the witcher apprentices all looked up in confusion.
This is a lake.
The snow-covered lakeside was transformed into a vast expanse of white.
The calm lake water reflects the white of the shore, the white of the sky, and the white of the mountains.
Although all are white, the layers are different, making the lake surface look like an ancient and elegant silver mirror.
Snowflakes fall on the mirror's surface, creating ripples that make one yearn to step behind it and see what kind of beautiful icy world lies hidden within.
"Wow!"
Huus blushed, his mouth agape in astonishment at the desperate situation before him.
Fred and Bont were about the same size as Huus, and they all stared wide-eyed with their round Cat Eyes.
Where is this?
"Such a beautiful place must have a name, right?" Huus asked Ailin eagerly.
He had never seen such a beautiful place.
"Killer Lake," Ailin paused for a moment, then said, "This is where apprentices undergo their Trial of the Mountains, which is why the School of the Wolf witchers call it Killer Lake."
The three apprentices, who had been excited, fell silent.
Ailin watched their spirits quickly sank, but he didn't feel pity as usual.
Killer Lake.
For the Wolf School Witcher, this is indeed a name with heavy connotations.
However, after tomorrow, they will no longer have this fear and depression.
Perhaps none of the School of the Wolf's apprentices after him will be afraid of Killer Lake.
"Bang~ Bang~"
With a soft clinking of the glass bottles, Ailin took out four thumb-sized crystal bottles from his waist and handed them one by one to the bewildered apprentices.
Vesemir stood to the side with a smile on his face, arms crossed, watching the scene unfold without saying a word.
"Drink it," Ailin said with a smile.
The three little heads looked at each other, but out of trust in Ailin, they all gulped down the blue liquid in the crystal bottle.
Ailin drank his share and nodded to the other three Witcher apprentices.
Then he plunged into the icy lake water.
Soft, emerald-green aquatic plants, schools of fish swimming about, and colorful pebbles...
The unique luminous vision of Killer Whale makes the underwater scenery of Killer Lake just as beautiful as that on the surface.
The only eyesore was the water ghosts floating at the edge of the horizon.
However, none of the water ghosts noticed Ailin's presence.
"It really worked!"
The witcher apprentice was thrilled. Last time he used the "Killer Whale" potion, not a single water ghost in Killer Lake was left; they had all been turned into dried leeches by the Sorceress.
Therefore, although he knew the potion was very effective, he was still somewhat uncertain.
After that, Master Dante forbade him from coming to Killer Lake.
They seemed afraid he would kill all the water ghosts in the lake.
Now the opportunity has arrived.
Ailin had already swum more than ten meters away from the nearest water ghost.
The water ghost continued to drift aimlessly in the lake.
Swimming a few more meters forward, the water ghost remained unaware.
He was finally able to put his mind at ease.
"Bang~ Bang~ Bang~"
Three sounds of water entering the water.
Ailin looked in the direction of the sound, and the apprentices' surprised faces were particularly noticeable against the backdrop of the shimmering blue lake.
Its mouth opened even wider than Vesemir's had before.
He swam back, letting them adjust for a while, then pointed to the mouth, nose, and eyes, before letting them move a little closer to the water ghost in the distance.
They were then instructed to disembark one after another.
"Whoosh~"
With the sound of water splashing, Ailin patted his leather armor to wipe away the water stains.
The apprentices' leather armor was specially treated, using the oils of certain monsters to create a lightweight design.
The weight of the leather armor will not affect movement.
Judging from the expression on Vesemir's face when he gave them the leather armor, it must have been quite valuable.
"Ailin! Ailin! Can we use this potion tomorrow?"
"Yes, Ailin, what we drink today, we can drink tomorrow too, right..."
Several apprentices also surfaced from the water, surrounding Ailin and chattering away.
"This is a potion made by Ailin, so it can certainly be used tomorrow," Vesemir said with a smile.
"Whoosh~"
Three exclamations of surprise rang out simultaneously.
Looking at the joy, trust, admiration, and worship on the three young faces around him, the Witcher apprentice felt a surge of satisfaction.
Although it is unknown how many of these witcher apprentices survived the Trial of the Mountains in the original timeline.
However, considering the 50% mortality rate, he saved at least one apprentice's life.
Moreover, it is conceivable that Killer Whale will save the lives of many more children in the future.
As she thought about it, a smile involuntarily spread across Ailin's face.
Because of the improved attributes, Ailin, who had unknowingly grown to be half a head taller than the other apprentices, smiled broadly when he saw Vesemir opposite him.
Relaxed, Ailin took out the Drowner Whistle and joked:
"Master Vesemir, since we're already here, why don't we kill a few water ghosts before we leave?"
The Witcher Master was about to walk towards them when he heard Ailin's words, and his smiling, handsome face suddenly darkened.
Rolling his eyes, Vesemir snorted, then smiled but didn't reply.
He knew the apprentice was joking with him.
After frolicking around for a while, the Witcher Master and his apprentices set off on their way back to Kaer Morhen.
After returning to the Ancient Sea Fortress, Ailin bid farewell to the others and went to the Alchemy Room on the second floor of the west tower.
He didn't come here because he was running out of "Killer Whale" potion.
A few days ago, Ailin spent an entire afternoon brewing a potion.
As for the quantity, Mary the Sorceress's pale face had something to say.
The Witcher apprentice is now going to the Alchemy Room to see if Lady Vesemir has returned.
"Knock knock knock~"
With a sense of anticipation that she herself did not understand, Ailin knocked on the door of the Alchemy Room.
"Squeak~"
The door opened.
Unfortunately, it was Mary who opened the door.
"Ai... Ailin... Is something the matter?"
Mary the Sorceress leaned against the door, looking somewhat fearful and reluctant to let the witcher apprentice in.
When Ailin saw Mary's appearance, he knew that Vesemir must not have returned yet.
However, he still asked.
Has Lady Vesemir returned?
"Not yet, is there something you need?"
Ailin shook his head and then said goodbye to Mary.
I'm getting ready to leave.
Suddenly, a clear female voice came from behind the Witcher Apprentice.
"Ailin!"
"You will definitely pass the trial tomorrow!"
The Witcher apprentice turned around at the sound and saw Mary's delicate, fair face full of solemnity and blessings. His heart warmed, and he smiled.
"Don't worry, Lady Mary."
"I will definitely pass the trial!"
"It definitely will!"
