Background and History

Shrek Academy was founded by Flender, its first headmaster. Yu Xiaogang, known as the Master, established the academy's Martial Soul Department teaching framework and the Ten Core Competencies of the martial soul world; together with Liu Erlong, he trained the first generation of the Shrek Seven Devils. Their statues stand at the academy entrance alongside those seven disciples. 26

The academy developed into an independent power centered on Shrek City. It governs the city directly, pays no taxes to any nation, and maintains a prestige unmatched by other academies. 25 Its ten-thousand-year heritage and alumni network have given it influence throughout the former Three Douluo Kingdoms, particularly within their militaries. 532

Mu En, the Dragon God Douluo, was Shrek's true strongest figure and Sea God Pavilion Master until his death. Before passing on, he appointed Elder Xuan as his successor, allocated half of the academy's income to the Soul Tool Department, and set the condition that a tenth-rank Soul Engineer could eventually succeed him. 18 290

Shrek later entered a three-year reciprocal exchange program with the Sun Moon Royal Soul Engineer Academy. Ten Shrek Inner Court disciples traveled to the Sun Moon Academy while twelve Sun Moon students entered Shrek; the program concluded after two and a half years in Maple Leaf City. 189 227 318

Campus and Facilities

Shrek Academy occupies the eastern district of Shrek City, facing the Star Dou Great Forest. The eastern gate is reserved exclusively for academy use, while the city's other gates are open to the public. 25

Departments and Education

Outer Court

The Outer Court contains Shrek's two major divisions:

• Martial Soul Department — The larger division, occupying roughly two-thirds of the main teaching area. It is subdivided into multiple branches. 26
• Soul Tool Department — The smaller division, occupying roughly one-third of the main teaching area. A freshman must first pass the initial assessment in the Martial Soul Department before registering there. 26

Outer Court admission requires applicants to be no older than twelve and possess at least fifteenth-rank Soul Power. 25 The minimum graduation standard is four rings, the Soul Ancestor rank; students who cannot reach this standard do not become sixth-year students and are eliminated. 90

The academy's assessments are deliberately severe. During one New Student Assessment, 311 teams totaling 933 students competed, but only 150 teams were retained as official first-year students. 56

Inner Court

The Inner Court is regarded as the “real” Shrek Academy, with fewer than one hundred disciples at a time. 215 It receives the academy's full financial support: accommodation, meals, precious ingredients, and other living expenses are free, while Outer Court students pay tuition, meal costs, and cultivation-ground rental fees. 215

Inner Court disciples undertake inspection missions without monetary payment, receiving points instead. The academy expects them to help uphold continental stability, especially by targeting Evil Soul Masters through the Shrek Inspection Corps. 215

Admission is highly selective. The Inner Court assessment includes:

1. Background assessment — Candidates must not conflict with Shrek's principles. 212

Policies and Student Culture

Shrek Academy allows same-year students considerable freedom to fight, treating combat as a key method of improvement. Upperclassmen are forbidden from deliberately provoking or attacking lowerclassmen and face expulsion if caught; lowerclassmen may challenge upperclassmen when a teacher is present. 31

The academy's long-standing tuition policy is nonrefundable: an Outer Court student who fails an assessment and drops out does not recover their fees. 26

Shrek uniforms carry strong symbolic value. Most students take pride in wearing them, and Inner Court disciples possess status that can exceed that of some Outer Court teachers. 552

Shrek Academy claims neutrality in disputes among the original Three Douluo Kingdoms, a stance maintained to prevent those nations from challenging its independence and prestige. 549 It therefore avoided directly intervening in conflicts such as the Tang Sect's dispute with the Iron-Blood Sect. 549

Its neutrality does not extend to the Sun Moon Empire. Shrek views the empire as an external enemy, particularly because of its collaboration with Evil Soul Masters and aggression toward the original three kingdoms. 427

As the Sun Moon Empire's invasion escalated, Shrek Academy established three Soul Engineer legions to strengthen its defenses and counter the empire's Soul Engineer legions. 479 480
