Background / History
The Sun Moon Empire was previously defeated by the three original Douluo Continent empires acting together. Those victors were severely weakened by the conflict, while the Sun Moon Empire spent the following millennia concentrating on Soul Tool development and steadily rebuilding its national strength. 102
Unlike the divided Star Luo, Heavenly Soul, and Dou Ling Empires, the Sun Moon Empire developed as a single state with a major technological advantage. Its leaders avoided open conquest for years because Shrek Academy could unite the three rival empires and field top-tier Soul Masters capable of opposing its greatest Soul Engineers. 102
For more than a year, Dragon God Douluo Mu En's existence deterred the empire from provocations after Jing Hongchen learned of his strength. Its war faction only resumed its ambitions once that deterrence was expected to disappear. 217
Following the Mingdu explosion and the imperial succession crisis, Crown Prince Xu Tianran formally became emperor. He initially focused on rebuilding damaged areas of the capital while consolidating his position. 426
Capital and Society
Mingdu is the largest city on the continent; even the combined capitals of Heavenly Soul, Dou Ling, and Star Luo are described as less than half its size. Its extensive multi-story construction and nightscape reflect the empire's advanced Soul Tool technology. 348
The empire promotes Soul Engineer training among commoners rather than relying exclusively on elite Martial Soul inheritances.
- It provides free Martial Soul awakenings for commoners and subsidies for low-level Soul Masters. 432
- Its large pool of low-level Soul Engineers forms the foundation of its Soul Engineer Legions and supports widespread civilian Soul Tool use. 431
- Commoners consequently have broader avenues for advancement than those in the original three empires. 432
- The empire's Martial Soul inheritances are generally considered weaker than Shrek Academy's, but dual cultivation as Soul Masters and Soul Engineers substantially narrows that combat gap. 233
Military Organization
| Formation | Strength and requirements | Role / characteristics |
|---|---|---|
| Sun Moon Royal Soul Engineer Corps | Around 300 members; entry requires Soul Power Level 50 or higher. Its three commander and deputy commander posts are held by Rank 9 Soul Masters. 432 | The empire's strongest Soul Engineer Corps and one of the imperial family's two principal pillars alongside the Worship Hall. Only the emperor may mobilize it; it guards Mingdu. 432 |
| Imperial Dragon Soul Engineer Corps | 300 members; Soul Power Level 40 or higher. 432 | One of the four Beast King Class corps; regarded as having the strongest combat power among them. 432 |
| Dreadclaw Soul Engineer Corps | 300 members; Soul Power Level 40 or higher. 432 | A Beast King Class corps composed entirely of burly men; participated in the opening assault on Star Luo. 432 464 |
| Fire Phoenix Soul Engineer Corps | 300 members; Soul Power Level 40 or higher. 432 | A Beast King Class corps composed entirely of women. It ranks among the empire's top three corps and is commanded by Ju Zi. 432 482 |
| Evil Lord Soul Engineer Corps | 300 members; Soul Power Level 40 or higher. 432 | A Beast King Class corps specializing in speed and surprise attacks; bears the Evil Eye Tyrant Overlord as its emblem. 432 446 |
| Regular Soul Engineer Corps | Initially six corps of 500 members each; entry requires more than two Soul Rings. 432 | Distributed across the empire, with additional military-district and noble-controlled formations of varying quality. 432 |
| Wartime Corps | The empire expanded from ten to fifteen Soul Engineer Corps through wartime conscription. 535 | Numbered corps such as the Second, Third, and Fourth Corps reinforce the Protectors of the Nation on major fronts. 535 |
The Sun Moon Royal Soul Engineer Corps and the four Beast King Class corps are collectively known as the Protectors of the Nation. 432
Technology and Military Capabilities
Soul Tool Industry
Mingde Hall drives the empire's Soul Tool research, which outpaces the original three empires to the extent that Star Luo cannot keep pace despite its own reforms. 2
- The empire possesses hidden independent Rank 9 Soul Masters beyond Mingde Hall, whereas the former Three Douluo Kingdoms have none. 148
- Soul Engineers use coordinated Soul Tools to multiply their collective combat power; an elite ten-person unit can rival a Titled Douluo. 469
- Its troops commonly carry at least two Milk Bottles matching their own rank, giving them sustained combat endurance that opposing armies lack. 457
- Linked Soul Tool arrays allow Soul Engineer formations to operate as unified battlefield systems. 540
Detection and Reconnaissance
The empire places exceptional emphasis on aerial reconnaissance and intelligence.
- Ultra-High-Altitude Detection Soul Tools can observe targets roughly 3,000 meters below—far beyond the aerial detection capabilities of Star Luo. 463
- Detection data is transmitted directly to mobile high-level Soul Engineer units, which locate and intercept enemy scouts. 465
- These detection tools are costly Level 8 Soul Tools priced close to Level 9 equipment, making their loss strategically significant. 466
- Ju Zi expanded High-Altitude Detection Soul Tool production and sought funding for High-Altitude Strike Soul Tool research after becoming supreme commander. 490
Strategic Firepower
The empire's battlefield doctrine combines fortified positions, large-scale artillery, and elite Soul Engineer deployment.
- Level 9 Soul Tool Cannon Shells breached the Ming Dou Mountain Range and shattered the Star Luo Empire's western frontier. 454 455
- More than 3,000 firing points, primarily Soul Cannons and soul rays, were deployed in the Ming Dou Mountain Range defenses. 465
- Death's Light, a Super Soul Tool ray, was deployed to annihilate Star Luo's advancing forces before being intercepted by the Fire Phoenix Soul Tool. 467
- The imperial palace relies on layered defensive Soul Tool Shields, allowing it to withstand Fixed Soul Cannon Shells even where weapons of mass destruction cannot be deployed. 414
Political Strategy
Alliance with the Holy Spirit Cult
The empire is allied with the Holy Spirit Cult, whose Evil Soul Masters reinforce its military and political power. The alliance gives it access to numerous Soul Saints, Soul Douluo, and other dangerous combatants. 409 414
This alliance also creates internal tension. Xu Tianran depends on the Cult's strength and cannot easily oppose it, while the Cult's influence threatens the standing of other imperial factions. 482
Occupation Policy: “Open Scheme”
After occupying Heavenly Soul territory, the empire pursues long-term assimilation rather than indiscriminate destruction.
- It avoids harming civilians, drives out major Soul Master sects, and leaves limited forces behind to maintain order. 481
- The Sun Moon Merchant Association distributes civilian Soul Tools—especially to nobles—to make occupied territories dependent on Sun Moon technology. 481
- In northern cities, Soul Thermal Devices replace costly coal heating and can heat a noble household after weekly Soul Power replenishment. 481
- The policy aims to win over civilians and nobles while suppressing entrenched Soul Master sects, making reconquest increasingly difficult over time. 481
- Soul Tool lamps and other civilian infrastructure are installed in occupied Heaven Dou City as part of this assimilation campaign. 503
Resource Acquisition
War consumption and the Mingdu explosion created a shortage of rare metals, prompting accelerated mineral exploration in occupied territory. 483
The empire identified a northern ore field containing eleven high-quality rare-metal veins, including two particularly precious varieties. Its reserves were considered sufficient to support another war on the scale of the current conflict. 483 489
Major Arcs
Tournament Era
The Sun Moon Royal Soul Engineer Academy is one of the continent's two leading tournament forces alongside Shrek Academy. Its students demonstrate the empire's model of combining Soul Master cultivation with Soul Tool combat. 172 233
During the Continental Young Soul Master Tournament in Mingdu, the empire openly displayed Limit Douluo Long Xiaoyao and structured rules to favor Soul Engineers. 353 355
Xu Tianran’s Ascension
Xu Tianran emerged as the clear successor to the throne, receiving Jing Hongchen's support as Mingde Hall's master. 354
After the assassination attempt and Mingdu explosion, Xu Tianran took the throne, rebuilt the capital, and prepared the empire for full-scale war. 420 426
Invasion of Star Luo and Heavenly Soul
The empire opened the war by launching a surprise assault on Star Luo's western frontier, using Level 9 Soul Tool Cannon Shells to break the Ming Dou Mountain Range defenses. 454 455
This attack was a strategic feint. Ju Zi's actual objective was the Heaven Dou Empire, while the occupation of the Ming Dou Mountain Range prevented Star Luo from safely transferring forces to its ally. 464
The empire committed 200,000 elite troops to the campaign, including six Soul Engineer Corps and the Fire Phoenix, Evil Lord, and Dreadclaw Protectors of the Nation. 464
Battle for the Ming Dou Mountain Range
The empire turned the Ming Dou Mountain Range into a fortress supported by detection systems, artillery positions, and high-level defenders. A force of fewer than 20,000 soldiers and two Soul Engineer Legions held back hundreds of thousands of Star Luo troops. 465 474
Its defensive line eventually collapsed after Chi Yuan confronted Death God Douluo Ye Xishui and the Death God Tower withdrew. Star Luo then reclaimed the mountain range and destroyed the empire's Soul Tool positions. 477 478
Heavenly Soul Occupation
The Sun Moon Empire conquered more than two-thirds of the Heaven Dou Empire, including Heaven Dou City, before supply lines, occupation duties, resistance groups, and Star Luo harassment slowed its advance. 479 502
It strengthened its army by incorporating defeated Heavenly Soul personnel into auxiliary Soul Engineer Corps, distributing members among existing formations and equipping them with basic Soul Tools. 482
