Background / History

Gao Yi begins as a Rogue Trader candidate aboard the Golden Ram. After surviving a Chaos-cult assassination attempt, he submits to examination by Father Kaira and Navigator Eunice, who confirm that neither he nor his warriors are corrupted. With Lord Ludwig missing and the ship trapped in the Warp, Chief Steward Veil asks Gao Yi to serve as acting captain because of his dynastic blood, prior voidship experience, and the prestige earned by saving the vessel. 3 5

As acting captain, Gao Yi uses Psionic Crystals and a construction system to establish a Barracks aboard the ship. The facility produces CMC combat suits, weapons, and specialist equipment, allowing his forces to retake areas overrun by traitors and Chaos corruption. His growing Warp projection lets him observe recruited troops remotely and purify Warp energy gained through battle. 5 6 7 8

Following Ludwig's death, Gao Yi formally inherits the Rogue Trader title with little meaningful opposition. He assumes control of the Mongert Dynasty, first stabilizing its finances through combat-suit sales, then using military force and trade agreements to rebuild its fleet, industry, and manpower. 17 18 19 24 25

On Agathos, Gao Yi defeats Chaos forces and an Enchanted Warrior, then becomes known as a Living Saint after an Imperial miracle incinerates the remaining enemies. Gao Yi later turns the Mongert Dynasty into the core of a Rogue Trader Alliance. By offering smaller dynasties captured worlds, supplies, and protection in exchange for loyalty and tribute, he binds them to his expanding power base. 125 126

After aiding Guilliman and the Imperium against Chaos, Gao Yi is appointed a High Lord and becomes Sector Governor of the newly formalized Kronus Sector.
