Origins and rise

Before becoming an Emperor, the Grey Emperor was a slave and a supervisor assigned to a primitive-civilization protection zone on the Cloud Ghosts' homeworld. He formed bonds with several Cloud Ghosts there, acquired his first Wonderous Item, and later recruited the race while conquering the Milky Way; the Cloud Ghosts subsequently became one of the Galactic Nation's strongest powers 550.

His rise is characterized as one of plunder and enslavement. He appropriated the power, bodies, data, or loyalty of major figures and civilizations—including the Golden Crow, Dragon Race, Taiwei Hua Civilization, Phoenix Sovereign, Lan Tian, Yemeng, and Gulanbato—to build his trans-dimensional power 627. His acquisition of transcendence data required exploiting half-step transcendental beings rather than cooperating with them 627.

Emperor Group

The Grey Emperor accumulated hundreds of thousands of Wonderous Items but could not safely wield every incompatible trait at once. He created external avatars to manage compatible sets of items; the known Emperor Group includes the Observer, Glutton, Dominator, Lethal Conqueror, and Gender Guardian 530.

The Emperor Group consists of consciousnesses taken from other timelines through one of the Grey Emperor's Wonderous Items. These incarnations are alternate lives, facets, or states of the same underlying information, allowing them to bear costs or act independently for the main body 646 640.

Although outsiders often treat the Grey Emperor and Zeta Civilization as one entity, Zeta is his vassal, creation, and slave. The Dominator was specifically stationed to rule and protect Zeta, while the Grey Emperor's own priority remained surpassing all existence 613 623.

Heavenly Dao refinement

The Grey Emperor sought to refine the Heavenly Dao and reach the ten-dimensional Taiyi Realm. Lan Tian states that this was intended to give him the power to eliminate the evil god consuming the universe's information 646. His refinement process depended on Emperor Group incarnations and was vulnerable when the Dominator attempted to replace him or when incarnations were separated from their host bodies 639 640.

The Grey Emperor's true form possesses no detectable presence; even when standing among opponents, it may remain unseen and unfelt. He normally presents ordinary-energy avatars for others to perceive, while Xuanzun could locate the true body only because he was being refined by it 669.

He is calculating, evasive, and willing to use enslavement, refinement, timeline extraction, and information deletion to secure advantages. He avoids direct confrontation when it threatens his plans, yet his extreme pride repeatedly draws him into decisive contests with Yan Nu and later the Azure Emperor 669 675 707.

His ideal universe is hierarchical by design: races are assigned unequal resources, technologies, and roles according to their closeness to him, with the Grey Emperor himself serving as the universe's unquestionable rationale 680. After being controlled by Demonic Cang Yue, however, he recognizes that he had never been truly free and becomes less openly defiant 707.

Miaohan's Infinite Spoon Array failed to locate him because his true body had no presence; the visible Grey Emperor was only a disposable avatar 669. He refined Xuanzun, killed An Qisheng with Zero Point, and eliminated multiple Blue-White Society powerhouses before Adam temporarily trapped him in a rice cooker 669 670.

War across dimensions and timelines

After escaping containment, the Grey Emperor completed Information Shielding, acquired Information Perception, and began fighting Yan Nu across dimensions 674. He fled direct defeat by self-destructing and moving to another timeline, then refined worlds and Heavenly Daos to strengthen himself 675.

He ultimately restarted the Ten-Dimensional Singularity, created a universe ordered around worship of himself, and became Taiyi 680. He then converged thirty million timelines, transformed into the sole Heavenly Ghost, and became the carrier of innumerable Heavenly Daos 682 683.

Defeat, return, and sealing

Though Grey Emperor's Information Deletion temporarily annihilated Yan Nu, Yan Nu later returned, surpassed him, and repeatedly sealed or defeated him in higher dimensions 683 688 689. Under Demonic Cang Yue's control, the Grey Emperor helped destroy the Supreme Blue-White Realm and the Order of Great Peace 705.

The Azure Emperor later defeated him with an Imperial Artifact Sword and sealed his True Spirit. After Yan Nu arrived, the Grey Emperor ceased resisting and asked to understand the level at which Yan Nu had surpassed him 707.
