Background

Shen Leling’s original body was a clear spring. She awakened as a Natural-elemental Demonic Creature upon being touched by the Heavenly Dao, forming a Spirit Pearl as her Demon Bone. Her water nature also grants an affinity for Wood Element Dao Arts, while Earth Element methods restrain her. 23 28

Before meeting Yan Nu, she cultivated the Shen Family’s Jade Flower Scripture as a Qi Refiner and accumulated twenty years of Dao cultivation. She obtained knowledge of noble families and cultivators largely through deception, allowing her to impersonate a Shen Family cultivator despite her true origins. 24 32 199

Shen Leling is clever, theatrical, status-conscious, and habitually deceptive. She distrusts people because of the selfishness she encountered while surviving among humans, and she readily manipulates others when she believes it is strategically necessary. Huang Banyun is deliberately maneuvered into dependence on Yan Nu so that he can be used against the Zhang Family. 34

Her cynicism contrasts sharply with Yan Nu’s sincerity. Initially, she considers absorbing his Essence Soul to heal herself and jokingly labels him her “pre-ordered medicinal pill.” Yet she cannot bring herself to harm him when he sincerely offers his life for her recovery. 26 28

Shen Leling first observes Yan Nu’s mistreatment at Tea Mountain Fort and becomes intrigued by his unusual straightforwardness. When he is publicly tortured, she teaches him the Great Emperor White Jade Scripture, heals him, and begins calling herself his elder sister. 16 17 18

After awakening her original body beneath the fort, she acquires the Golden Jade Robe, rescues the severely injured Yan Nu, and takes him from Tea Mountain Fort. She attempts to recruit him as her servant, but their relationship instead develops into a sibling-like partnership. 23 24

Conflict with the Zhang Family

The Zhang Family’s ghost cultivator injures Shen Leling’s primordial spirit and forces her into a desperate retreat. She refuses to consume Yan Nu’s Essence Soul, then loses twenty years of Dao cultivation to the Mortal World Fire after using Hanging River Downpour. 26 27

She turns Flag Mountain into a base, heals through Yan Nu’s Water Talisman, deploys Vine Armor Soldiers, and manipulates Huang Banyun into joining their cause. Pursuit by Shen Wuxing and the Demonic Path

The revelation that Shen Wuxing is seeking her exposes Shen Leling’s vulnerability. She initially wants to flee alone, but remains with Yan Nu after Feng Junyou argues that Yan Nu’s chaotic heavenly secrets offer her better protection. 60
