Background

Luo Yan emerged as a powerful Mohist follower of the Demonic Path after many of his fellow cultivators had been sealed or killed. He arrived on Divine Iron to suppress a conflict among Tu Fa Clan cultivators, Taihang disciples, Yun Yuan, and Yu Qinghe, ordering them to accompany him to Lanbai Mountain. His first stated objective was retribution for his sealed brethren. 88

Unlike orthodox cultivators, Luo Yan regards immortal cultivation and the Heavenly Dao as tools to be discarded once the world's dangerous Wonderous Items have been brought under control. He declares that the Demonic Path seeks to destroy Heaven, end the immortal streams, and ultimately eliminate itself alongside the final Wonderous Item. 90

After meeting Yan Nu and Miaohan, Luo Yan recognizes Yan Nu as the “ultimate Wonderous Item” sought by the Demonic Path. He enters a pragmatic alliance with them: the Demonic Path will assist Yan Nu against Wonderous Items and the Heavenly Dao, even though Luo Yan believes their ideals will eventually diverge. 188 197

Luo Yan remains committed to the Demonic Path’s final principle even after Yan Nu becomes overwhelmingly powerful: no absolute Wonderous Item should remain unrestrained. Rather than abandon that conviction, he ultimately merges into Yan Nu as an Enlightenment Master personality who will observe and uphold the Demonic Path’s ideals from within. 691 714

Appearance

Luo Yan first appears seated atop a sheet of Divine Iron, dressed in black robes with long hair flying freely in the wind. He carries a large scroll on his back, which unfolds into a painting containing landscapes and sealed spaces. 88

  • Black robes and long, disheveled hair during his first appearance. 88
  • Carries a scroll roughly half his height. 88
  • Uses Divine Iron as a flying platform, shield, weapon, and containment tool. 88 89
  • His Dao Integrator manifestation, “Old Luo,” has white hair, a blue-and-white Daoist robe, a Zi Wu crown, a sword at his waist, and a black lotus seat. 672

Personality

Luo Yan is a pragmatic idealist. He considers incomplete plans and dangerous risks preferable to endless hesitation, arguing that ideals can only be realized through action. He openly admits to testing Yan Nu’s limits and preparing contingencies for Yan Nu’s death, but does so because he believes the Demonic Path must act even when no perfect solution exists. 197

His commitment to containment is absolute. Luo Yan believes Wonderous Items can be useful, but that any force powerful enough to dominate the world can also become its greatest disaster. This conviction persists even when it places him ideologically against Yan Nu, whom he respects deeply. 691 714

As a Mohist follower and mechanic, Luo Yan values natural principles, craftsmanship, calculation, and practical utility. He is notably direct about his priorities, describing himself as a craftsman rather than a gentleman. 263 328

Abilities & Skills

Dao and Martial Cultivation

Luo Yan cultivates both Daoist and martial methods. By the time of his public appearance, he has advanced to the Longevity Stage; he also displays the martial presence known as Presence Like Dragon and Tiger, a level associated with the Calamity Tribulation Stage. 89 90

  • Blocks transformations, flames, lightning, Sword Qi, and other spell effects. 89
