Background

Kiana grew up believing that her mother had gone to a “very, very distant place,” rather than understanding that she might be dead. Learning that her mother was a Valkyrie transformed that absence into an ideal: Kiana came to admire Valkyries and wanted to inherit their strength and heroic role. She had just turned sixteen when this revelation fueled her desire for powerful abilities and a special identity 19 23.

At St. Freya Academy, Kiana initially suspects Li Pu of having ulterior motives toward Mei. She follows him, interprets repeated coincidences as evidence of premeditation, and repeatedly tries to confront him physically 1 6 16. When Li Pu touches her face while testing his System, she experiences an overwhelming sense of her mother’s presence and desperately searches for him afterward 17 18.

Kiana later reunites with Cecilia, who is actually Li Pu using Cecilia’s appearance. Though the situation is confusing, Kiana accepts Cecilia as her mother and eagerly attempts to restore her fractured family 26 35. Her confidence is shattered when Cecilia undergoes Herrscherfication and attacks St. Freya without recognizing her; Himeko saves Kiana from the lethal strike 49 50.

Personality

Kiana is carefree, straightforward, willful, and quick to jump to conclusions. She means well, but often underestimates other people and charges into danger before considering the consequences 15 49. Her pride as a Kaslana and her dream of becoming an S-rank Valkyrie drive much of that recklessness 49 86.

She is deeply loyal to Mei and fiercely protective of the people she considers family. Her initial suspicion of Li Pu comes from concern for Mei, while her repeated attempts to reach Dr. MEI stem from her refusal to let Mei remain separated from her mother 6 74. Beneath her bravado, she is vulnerable regarding Cecilia and becomes frightened when confronted by the real devastation of a Honkai zone 17 18 289.

Kiana has a tendency to boast after small successes, especially when she believes she has discovered a unique technique. However, she can learn from guidance: under Saber’s instruction, she shifts from blindly rushing in to using hit-and-run tactics against Knight-class Honkai Beasts 293 295.

While separated from the group, she discovers her Time-Space Rift weak-point technique and gathers supplies. Her confidence later leads her to underestimate an enemy formation, triggering the appearance of a Temple-class Honkai Beast 292 293 294. She goes missing again during the outbreak, draws Honkai Beasts away from the search party, and is eventually found severely injured by Cecilia 301 302.
