History

Yu Xiaogang was born the son of Blue Lightning Tyrant Dragon Clan leader Yu Yuanzhen. Rather than inheriting the clan’s Blue Lightning Tyrant Dragon, he awakened the regressed Luo Sanpao martial soul, becoming a source of ridicule within the clan and a disappointment to his father 26.

His relationship with Bibi Dong ended after Qian Xunji’s intervention. Years later, he met Flender and Liu Erlong; their rare three-person Martial Soul Fusion Skill made them renowned as the Golden Iron Triangle. Yu Xiaogang recognized himself as the fusion skill’s leading member and viewed the partnership as a means to eventually challenge the standing of Titled Douluo through Flender and Liu Erlong’s future strength 20 21.

Yu Xiaogang and Liu Erlong fell in love and held a wedding ceremony, only for Yu Luomian to reveal that Liu Erlong was his daughter and Yu Xiaogang’s younger cousin. The revelation ended their marriage before it could be consummated 25 26. When Qian Xunji later coerced Liu Erlong into choosing him, Yu Xiaogang believed she had been threatened and resolved to save her despite his fear of Spirit Hall’s Titled Douluo 29 34.

Yu Xiaogang is a weathered middle-aged man with an ordinary appearance, a flat-top haircut, stubble, and a habit of walking with his hands behind his back. His half-lidded eyes are described as carrying laziness and despondence 20 89.

Yu Xiaogang is intensely driven by recognition. His failure to meet the Blue Lightning Tyrant Dragon Clan’s expectations, the loss of Bibi Dong and Liu Erlong, and his weak martial soul leave him eager to prove his worth through theory, disciples, honors, and political authority 26 90 319.

He is proud of his theoretical knowledge and readily performs it for admiration, particularly around Liu Erlong. He places exceptional value on talent, initially dismissing Ye Yang for his presumed peasant background before changing his mind upon seeing his innate level-nine soul power 20 91.

Although he repeatedly expresses hatred toward Qian Xunji and Spirit Hall, Yu Xiaogang is intimidated by overwhelming personal power. He nevertheless channels his resentment into cultivating Tang San, political maneuvering, and the long-term goal of destroying Spirit Hall 29 37 283.

The collapse of his wedding and Liu Erlong’s coercion by Qian Xunji deepen his hatred of Spirit Hall 20 25 29.

Tang San’s Teacher

After meeting Bibi Dong in Spirit City, Yu Xiaogang obtains her cultivation knowledge and publishes Eleven Great Competitiveness of Martial Souls. The work briefly transforms public mockery into admiration, but Spirit Hall exposes its sources and defeats him in a public debate, leaving him reclusive and despondent 235 237 238 239.

Heaven Dou National Teacher

Tang San recommends Yu Xiaogang to Xue Qinghe, who makes him Heaven Dou’s National Teacher. Yu Xiaogang gains the recognition he had long sought, then directs Blood Prison’s sweeping anti-Spirit Hall purge 283 320.

Betrayal and Imprisonment

After Tang San becomes the Asura God, Yu Xiaogang celebrates so wildly that he loses two medals in a cesspit 330. He later urges Heaven Dou to join Tang San’s campaign against Spirit Hall, only for Xue Qinghe to reveal that Yu Xiaogang’s purges had actually helped Spirit Hall take control of the imperial court. Jie Ge then returns him to Martial Soul Prison 333.
