Background

Before transmigrating, Ye Yang was an online Tang San fanatic known as Tang Sect Ye Yang. He spent his time attacking writers and commenters who criticized Tang San, eventually dying by electrocution after knocking over a kettle during an all-night argument. He awakened in Douluo Continent as Tang San’s fellow villager and contemporary in Holy Soul Village 75.

His initial situation seemed hopeless: his parents possessed the Dung Ladle and dung fork martial souls and had no Innate Soul Power, leading Ye Yang to expect an equally poor inheritance. Determined to follow Tang San regardless, he repeatedly tried to befriend him, shared food with him, gathered vegetables for him, and attempted to learn Tang San’s secret arts. Tang San consistently rejected and guarded against him 75.

After Ye Yang angrily demanded a system from the sky, the Live Stream System finished loading and bound to him. He began broadcasting Douluo Continent to viewers from his original world, particularly Tang Sect supporters and Tang San critics 75 78.

Three years later, Ye Yang gambled his saved reward points in a Martial Soul lottery. After several failed draws and a point penalty for insulting the system, he obtained and accepted the High-level Hell Spirit Cat martial soul with Innate Soul Power Level 9 81.

Personality

Ye Yang began as an intensely devoted Tang San admirer. He viewed becoming Tang San’s companion, Yu Xiaogang’s disciple, a member of Shrek, and eventually a god as the ideal path for his life. Tang San’s coldness did not initially discourage him; Ye Yang interpreted it as part of Tang San’s appeal and continued trying to earn his approval 75 79.

He is also opportunistic and highly conscious of the value of his live broadcast. He initially deceived Tang San critics into donating by promising to torment Tang San, then revealed that he intended to use their gifts to support Tang San instead. Once viewership declined, he regretted exposing his loyalty too early 79 80.

His deference has limits. Although he spent donations and personal opportunities aiding Tang San and Shrek, Ye Yang gradually recognized that Tang San’s circle regarded him as expendable. Learning that Tang San, Dai Mubai, Ma Hongjun, and Oscar had agreed to prevent him from becoming a god broke his loyalty and drove him to retaliate 306 307.

Ye Yang’s early goal was to become indispensable to Tang San before Tang San left the village. His Hell Spirit Cat awakening briefly secured him Holy Soul Village’s only Work-Study Student position, but Tang Hao intimidated him into surrendering it for Tang San 75 84 85.

Yu Xiaogang’s Nominal Disciple

At Notting City Soul Master Academy, Ye Yang persistently pursued Yu Xiaogang. His Hell Spirit Cat and Innate Soul Power Level 9 convinced Yu Xiaogang to accept him as a nominal disciple, making him Tang San’s junior brother and dorm-mate in the Seventh Dorm 91.

Shrek Academy and Tang San’s Supporter

Ye Yang entered Shrek at Level 27 and believed he had finally secured a place among the future Shrek Seven Devils. Tang San, Dai Mubai, Oscar, and Ma Hongjun privately rejected this idea, considering Ye Yang an outsider and a dangerous variable 193 200.

After Bibi Dong stripped Tang San of the Eight Spider Lances, Ye Yang used Tang Sect donations to buy a replacement two-thousand-year Man Faced Demon Spider External Soul Bone. Tang San accepted it while privately suspecting Ye Yang’s connection to Bibi Dong 208.

Ye Yang later supplied immortal herbs to the Shrek group and explained Spirit Hall’s use of newspapers, finance, logistics, and Soul Tool monopolies to establish political control. His analysis earned Ning Rongrong’s interest and the others’ reluctant respect 215 234.

Break with Shrek and the Tang Sect

Ye Yang discovered that Tang San, Dai Mubai, Ma Hongjun, and Oscar had reached a consensus to deny him godhood. Feeling exploited despite his support, he turned against both Shrek and his audience 306.

He demanded compensation from the Tang Sect viewers, then secretly sent Qian Xunji information on Tang San’s plan to pursue the Asura God’s inheritance. Qian Xunji discarded the report because Tang San was already under Spirit Hall surveillance 307.
