Background / History
About seven years before the opening chapter, Guangling encountered a roughly fifty-thousand-year-old spirit beast guarding a pale-blue egg in the Sunset Forest. The egg was approximately one and a half meters long. Curious about its unfamiliar appearance, he took it back to Spirit City to study 1.
Three months later, the egg hatched into a baby girl rather than the spirit beast he expected. Guangling initially suspected that she belonged to an unknown spirit-beast species, but his examinations convinced him that she was human. Having no descendants of his own, he adopted her and named her Bai Wanwan 1.
Guangling openly told Wanwan that she had hatched from an egg, although she initially found the claim unbelievable. Gu Yuena later confirmed her extraordinary origins, leading Wanwan to recognize that her grandfather had been telling the truth 1 61.
Personality
Guangling is affectionate and indulgent toward Wanwan. Before her martial soul awakening, he promises to support her even if she has poor talent or cannot cultivate. His care extends to everyday comforts: he wants her plainly furnished bedroom decorated and willingly pays for the clothes she chooses during an extended shopping trip 1 15 19.
His protectiveness can become possessive. Even after Wanwan earns considerable fame during her travels, he still sees her as the child who needs his protection. When she announces that she likes someone, he assumes the person is male and interprets beauty, talent, and powerful connections as reasons for suspicion. Once he learns that she means Qian Renxue, he approves their relationship because he trusts them both, though his grandfatherly jealousy remains 111 112 113 114.
Golden Crocodile regards Guangling as having childish habits and warns Wanwan not to imitate them. Nevertheless, Guangling can argue seriously when necessary: his objection to Qian Renxue’s undercover assignment focuses on its uncertain outcome, the loss of her youth, and the damage it could do to her cultivation 7 17.
Abilities & Skills
Guangling Divine Bow and Archery
Guangling’s martial soul is the Guangling Divine Bow, and he identifies archery as his principal specialty 3 20.
- His martial soul is tool-type, unlike Wanwan’s dragon-type beast martial soul; Golden Crocodile uses this difference to argue that he would be better suited to teach her 7.
- Guangling questions the value of teaching Wanwan ordinary archery because her martial soul is not a bow. He believes ordinary bows and arrows would offer her less power than her own soul skills or physical attacks 20.
- No named bow techniques or combat soul skills are documented in the supplied passages.
Worship Hall Authority
As the Fifth Elder, Guangling holds considerable power and status within Spirit Hall, giving Wanwan a means to influence decisions through him 4.
- He is the first elder to openly reject Bibi Dong’s proposal to send Qian Renxue undercover, speaking before Qian Daoliu states his position 17.
- He can provide an Elder Token that allows its holder to exercise an elder’s authority 23.
- He offers to personally intervene if older-generation opponents interfere in Wanwan’s disputes during her travels 22.
Equipment / Items
- Small arrow — Frequently twirled in his hand during conversations. When Wanwan reveals that she has a love interest, he stops twirling it and drives it into his chair’s armrest 1 14 17 111.
- Gold Soul Card — Prepared for Wanwan’s journey with approximately three to five million Gold Soul Coins; he tells her not to stint herself while away 23.
- Elder Token — Given to Wanwan alongside the card so that she can exercise an elder’s authority 23.
- Ninth-grade purple ganoderma — Offered by Wanwan as a treasure that strengthens foundation and vitality and increases cultivation speed. Guangling is pleased by its effects but does not immediately take it 120.
Relationships
- Bai Wanwan — Adopted granddaughter whom he raised after her egg hatched. He supports her regardless of talent, approves Golden Crocodile’s mentorship, and offers both money and institutional protection for her travels 1 12 22 23.
- Azure Luan — Close friend and fellow Worship Hall elder. Guangling entrusts Wanwan’s martial soul awakening to him; Azure Luan later teases him over his reversal on her romantic relationship 2 3 114.
- Golden Crocodile — Fellow elder and Wanwan’s teacher. Guangling readily agrees to the proposed apprenticeship, even while mistakenly believing Golden Crocodile’s sighs indicate that Wanwan lacks talent 7 12 13.
- Qian Renxue — Spirit Hall’s Young Master and Wanwan’s partner. Guangling defends her cultivation prospects against the undercover proposal and later gives the couple his blessing 17 114.
- Qian Daoliu — Grand Elder whom Guangling accompanies during the expedition following Qian Xunji’s death. After accepting Wanwan and Qian Renxue’s relationship, Guangling directs reproachful looks toward him, which Qian Daoliu ignores 12 114 115.
- Bibi Dong — Pope whose proposed use of Qian Renxue as an undercover operative Guangling openly opposes 17.

On returning three months later, he approves Golden Crocodile’s mentorship and learns that she has innate full soul power and has reached rank sixteen 2 3 12 13. |
