Background / History

Naruto attends the Ninja Academy under Iruka Umino. When Ryo Senju transfers into the class, Naruto immediately notices the discrepancy between Ryo’s stated name and his own introduction as “Wu Liang.” Curious about the newcomer, Naruto accepts his invitation to eat together. Ryo’s new home is beside Naruto’s apartment, and their shared meals become a regular routine 27 28.

Wu Liang later teaches Naruto the Senju Clan’s Chakra-extraction technique. Naruto’s spiritual energy is easy to sense, but he initially cannot perceive the cellular energy needed to make Chakra; Wu Liang solves this by channeling Yin Release Chakra into him. Naruto’s extraction speed eventually proves comparable to Wu Liang’s, aided by the Uzumaki physique and large Chakra reserves 29.

Naruto graduates after mastering the Clone Technique, avoiding the failure that would have left him vulnerable to Mizuki’s manipulation. He celebrates with Wu Liang, Hinata, Sasuke, and Sakura, then joins Team 7 under Kakashi alongside Sasuke, Sakura, and the unusually designated “substitute” Ryo 36 37.
