Chapter 49: "This Money Is Too Easy to Earn."
Lamigium, Adventurer's Guild.
As usual, the Adventurer's Guild was as noisy as ever today.
In the guild's first-floor hall, adventurers clad in various armor and carrying all sorts of weapons gathered together as if to vent their emotions, eating meat and drinking alcohol heartily. This seemed to have become a norm.
Of course, some people were gathered in front of the notice board, selecting various requests. Long queues also formed in front of the guild staff's counters, which were also contributing factors to the lively scene.
Then, at a certain moment, the noise in the guild noticeably died down.
The reason was simple.
A party, conspicuous in every sense of the word, had appeared in the guild's first-floor hall.
"Look, the Vivian party is back."
"Oh? They're quite fast this time?"
"Miss Vivian is as beautiful as ever."
"Little Merika is also frighteningly beautiful, as expected of an Elf."
"Little Lumya is also very cute, right?"
"Hey, keep your voices down. It'll be terrible if Tier hears you."
"As expected, all the women in that party are too good-looking."
"I really want to join that party."
"Look, that newcomer is still with them."
"It seems they haven't done anything offensive."
"What a lucky guy."
Amidst such murmurs, Shien and his companions returned to the Adventurer's Guild, stepping into the hall once more.
Shien could naturally hear the surrounding chatter and feel the appraising, even barbed, gazes. He silently shrugged to himself.
As expected, no new reactions.
Shien no longer paid it any mind.
As for the members of the Vivian party, they seemed to have completely grown accustomed to such attention. Ignoring everyone else around them, they walked directly to a counter.
"Welcome back, Miss Vivian."
The guild staff member immediately stood up and greeted Vivian.
"Mm, we're back." Vivian offered him a gentle smile, but her words were direct. "We've completed the request we took earlier."
As she spoke, Vivian gestured to Merika beside her.
"Here are three bottles of Medium Magic Power Source spring water, and we've also collected all the Fire Lizard Hides," Merika said, placing a parcel on the counter and politely adding, "Please check them."
"Certainly, three bottles of Medium Magic Power Source spring water and thirty Fire Lizard Hides. We have indeed received them." The guild staff member merely glanced into the parcel and then confirmed the submitted request items. Whether it was trust in Vivian and the others or their own skill in quickly verifying these materials, he continued, "Additionally, the guild has confirmed with the merchant caravan that the Blood Sucking Vines on the main road to Fressia have all been cleared. All three of your accepted quests are confirmed complete."
Such efficiency was truly remarkable, befitting the Adventurer's Guild with its influence spanning the globe.
"This is your reward."
The guild staff member pushed out a tray laden with shining gold coins.
"Gold Rank Request - Collection of Spring Water - Reward: twenty gold coins."
"Silver Rank Request - Fire Lizard Hide - Reward: ten gold coins."
"Silver Rank Request - Clearing Blood Sucking Vines - Reward: also ten gold coins."
"A total of forty gold coins. Please confirm."
Upon hearing this, Vivian nodded. As she collected the gold coins and handed them over to Merika, she conversed with the guild staff member.
"Do you currently have any requests for Lizardmen Scales, Thorn Horn Demon Horns, or Hairy Spider Venom Sacs?"
"There is one request needing Thorn Horn Demon Horns. While there isn't a request for Hairy Spider Venom Sacs, the Potion Workshop on the west side street seems to need materials containing toxins. Apprentices regularly post requests at the guild, so you can give them to them next time. As for Lizardmen Scales, there doesn't seem to be a demand for them yet."
"What about Purple Eye Beast Eyeballs, Gargoyle Hearts, and Fanged Salamander Tendons?"
"I apologize, but someone already brought in Purple Eye Beast Eyeballs this morning. Fanged Salamander Tendons were still in stock in the guild warehouse, so they were handed out directly. However, Gargoyle Hearts are rare materials, and many people will want them. They might appear at any time, and we'll trade with whoever brings them in then."
"Thank you. We have some other materials here."
"It's alright. These are all high-level monster materials with high demand. Someone will request them soon."
"Then we'll leave them to you."
"Understood."
Vivian conversed smoothly with the guild staff member and had Lumya, who had been carrying a backpack larger than her own body, step forward and hand the backpack to the guild staff member.
"What are you doing?"
Shien asked, a little confused.
Unexpectedly, Tier, who had been silent beside him, answered Shien's question.
"That's to confirm if there's any need for the materials we collected outside of our requests," Tier said calmly. "Adventurers often end up hunting monsters unrelated to their requests while out in the field, collecting their materials. Even if these materials aren't part of the mission scope, the Guild might have requests for collecting them or for hunting those types of monsters. Therefore, usually, adventurers can report these to the Guild and complete requests they haven't officially accepted but have already fulfilled."
Shien immediately understood.
Right, he thought. If they collected materials from other monsters during their adventures, and the Guild happened to have requests for those materials, they could simply submit them afterward to complete those requests and earn extra rewards for them.
Even if there weren't any requests for those materials at the moment, there might be in the future. So, it seemed adventurers would also hand over some materials to the Guild for management. When requests requiring those types of materials appeared, the Guild could directly use them to fulfill those requests.
"Some people don't do that, though. They take the monster materials they collect to shops in town to sell them for money. How you do it is entirely up to you."
Tier spoke in a voice devoid of inflection.
"Our party generally hands over materials to the Guild, unless they are particularly high-grade and valuable materials, which we keep. If you feel this is not appropriate, you can make a suggestion to Vivian, and she will calculate your share of the materials and let you handle it yourself. This is our party's policy."
That's quite humane.
Shien thought this as he replied, "I have no objections. Let's handle it this way."
Tier nodded and said no more.
Not long after, Vivian, who had finished handling the matters concerning requests and materials, returned with Lumya and Merika.
"We had good luck; several of our materials were in demand. We completed a few other requests and received sixty gold coins in rewards."
Vivian, holding the divided money pouches, smiled and said, "For this mission, we've earned a total of one hundred gold coins. Each of us will receive a fair share of twenty gold coins. Here, take it."
As she spoke, Vivian handed four money pouches to each of them.
This money is really easy to earn.
With this thought, Shien reached out for the money pouch handed to him.
Just then, a hand suddenly reached out from the side and snatched the money pouch Vivian was about to give to Shien.
"It's not good for a newcomer to get this much reward. How about you treat everyone to a drink instead?"
A voice filled with laughter rang out, reaching everyone's ears.
Congratulations to "Winged遗影" for becoming the third Lord of this book! Cheers! ヾ(@^▽^@)ノ
