Appearance

Kurama is an enormous orange-red fox Tailed Beast, described as dozens of meters tall. He possesses nine fluffy tails and fierce beast eyes that can redden with anger. 29 30 45

Personality

Kurama is proud, stubborn, and initially hostile toward humans. Despite having lived for more than a thousand years, he is repeatedly unsettled by Daren Yi, whom he considers something inhuman and exceptionally malicious. 29 30

He is blunt in his judgments and holds lasting resentment toward Daren Yi for controlling and extracting chakra from him. Even so, he is practical enough to accept favorable terms and chakra-enhancing fruits rather than reject them out of pride. 45 47

Naruto's fearlessness gradually affects him. Kurama initially dismisses Naruto's attempts at friendship, but secretly smiles when Naruto persistently asks to borrow chakra and ultimately agrees to assist him. 35

History

Kurama had encountered Hashirama Senju and Madara Uchiha before the events of the novel, later comparing them favorably to Daren Yi because of Daren Yi's treatment of him. 30 47

When Naruto first enters the sealing space and sees him, Naruto does not fear him. Instead, Naruto relates to Kurama as another outcast, while Kurama is confused and annoyed by Naruto's lack of fear. Daren Yi then subdues Kurama with Mangekyo Sharingan genjutsu, including the Sensory Deprivation Black Room. 29

Following this coercive encounter, Daren Yi offers Kurama a deal: cooperate with and protect Naruto, receive eventual freedom once Naruto is thirty and able to protect himself, and avoid further control of Kurama's consciousness. Kurama accepts, though he recognizes the arrangement is unequal. 30

Naruto later approaches Kurama directly and asks for chakra rather than demanding trust. Kurama outwardly rejects Naruto's optimism, but agrees to lend chakra and begins acting as Naruto's partner. 35
