Background

Gu Chen and Zhu Huan were separated during a great famine as children. Their families were later massacred, leaving Zhu Huan and General Mo Qing as Gu Chen's remaining close connections. Gu Chen and Zhu Huan maintained a childhood promise that no one would go hungry. 913 1665

About sixty years before Zhang Chen learns his history, Gu Chen entered the Floating City as an unremarkable Level 3 Jailer. His registration revealed a rare Blood Realm Soul Stone containing a pure Blood Demon. Despite its nature, Gu Chen was known for his kindness and refused to absorb blood. 723

Twenty years before the account, he joined Mo Qing's force in responding to disturbances in the Blood Realm. The team found an entire Middle Eastern city reduced to ruins, with Gu Chen as its sole surviving life-sign. His Soul Stone had merged with an entity that even Mo Qing had feared, fundamentally changing both his power and disposition. 723

The countless deaths connected to his actions eventually shattered Gu Chen's consciousness. His remaining awareness entered the blood-colored figure inside his Soul Stone—the figure revealed to be his true self—while his physical body continued as an instinct-driven husk. Mo Qing prevented his execution, confined him in the Judgment Tower, and sustained him with blood energy and corpses. 736

Even after recovering control, he remains severe and decisive. He removes Wenren Chang Wu's Soul Stone after defeating him, kills Hu Bin while settling a debt to Zhang Chen, and enters the Blood Realm alone intending to eliminate its highest-ranking predators. 902 913 1247
