Background

Jia Xin trained in swordsmanship on Qingyun Peak as a child. There he befriended Xiao Yu, who regularly brought him fruit and urged him to take his talisman-writing practice seriously. 651 Xiao Yu’s later death became the source of Jia Xin’s long-running obsession: he eventually learned that she had been used as a sacrificial virgin girl in a cultivator scheme, while the records of the responsible cultivator had been erased after that person ascended. 1284

He first meets Zhang Chen during a school trip to Jiaoping Village. Though his fellow students provoke Zhang Chen’s group, Jia Xin intervenes, apologizes, and offers Zhang Chen gum. Zhang Chen immediately senses that Jia Xin’s righteous aura is unlike that of a ghost and recognizes his concealed strength. 30

At No. 1 Middle School, Jia Xin investigates Tian Yinghua’s earthbound spirit and protects Shen Qiutian after the ghost possesses her. He uses Spirit-Seeing Sand, a talisman, and water infused with blue grit to force Tian Yinghua out of Shen Qiutian’s body. 59

During the Blood Demon incident, Jia Xin’s desire to revive a childhood friend drives him to sacrifice classmates as bait for the Blood Demon, leaving a severe rift between him and Zhang Chen. He later reflects on his actions, and he and Zhang Chen gradually rebuild their partnership during later crises. 258 1752

Appearance

Jia Xin is a handsome young man with short crew-cut hair, a slender but deceptively powerful build, and a firm, controlled gait. Zhang Chen initially describes him as slightly over 1.7 meters tall, with a “Korean handsome” face and a prominent nose. 30

  • Often wears white robes or formal white clothing; he appears in a white suit during his return to Shilin University. 786
  • His righteous aura is strong enough to make others feel comfortable, even when he is concealing his cultivation. 30 786
  • Xiao Bai’s fusion leaves a visible white snake mark and alters one of Jia Xin’s arms. 938 1071
  • His later inner-demon fusion destroys nearly half of his face and replaces his former serene presence with an unsettling aura. 1440
  • Dragon scales can form across his forehead, face, and arms after mastering the Dragon God Nine Heavens Art. 1440 1469

Personality

Jia Xin is observant, highly analytical, and habitually prepares for supernatural threats with precise plans, specialized tools, and contingency measures. He can identify inconsistencies in an environment or in other people’s memories, then reorganize his assumptions instead of blindly trusting his first conclusion. 42 815

He presents himself with calm courtesy, often speaking respectfully even to rivals or dangerous elders. Beneath that composure, however, he is capable of severe ruthlessness when he believes a greater goal demands it. His decision to prioritize Qingyun Sect’s interests over Zhang Chen’s safety in Mikasa City demonstrates his willingness to sacrifice personal ties for responsibility. 613

Xiao Yu’s death and the crimes concealed by the cultivation world leave Jia Xin vulnerable to obsession and resentment. His inner demon embodies his anger at the world, his uncertainty about the Great Dao, and his inability to let go of Xiao Yu. 1284 1704

Abilities & Skills

Three Teachings Cultivation

Jia Xin combines Daoist, Buddhist, and Confucian cultivation into a body and mind unlike those of an ordinary cultivator.

  • His Dao–Buddhist fusion is completed through Xiao Bai’s soul and Ksitigarbha King’s arm. 938 1137
  • Bodhi Patriarch teaches him Confucian cultivation centered on tempering the mind and understanding the inner self. 1185
  • His completed form can appear entirely human despite holding immense Immortal Essence and Buddha Essence. 1260
  • Ksitigarbha King’s arm grants Buddhist suppression power capable of eliminating ghostly energy. 1138
  • Severe soul damage remains difficult to repair despite his extraordinary physique. 1626

Demon Devouring True Method

A dark cultivation method associated with Jia Xin’s inner demon and Ksitigarbha King legacy.

  • The dark swastika in his palm absorbs darkness and hostile dark power. 1609
  • It can counter energy-based attacks and help him break through independent worlds. 1609 1701
  • Jia Xin later uses it to absorb and convert Yu Ming’s energy into Immortal Essence. 1751
  • Its greater output is linked to Inner Demon Possession, which risks worsening his instability. 1609

Dragon God Nine Heavens Art

The strongest body-refining technique Jia Xin obtains from Candle Dragon.

  • Raises his physical strength and fully develops the potential of his True Immortal body. 1301
  • Allows the controlled manifestation of durable dragon scales. 1440 1469
  • Reaches Grand Perfection after Jia Xin completes all nine levels. 1305
  • Works especially well with Xiang Long, whose materials include Candle Dragon sinew and Candle Dragon Rock. 1703

Swordsmanship and Sword Intent

Jia Xin is primarily a sword cultivator whose offense combines weapon mastery, movement arts, and increasingly advanced Sword Intent.

  • Uses rapid sword strikes, flying-sword travel, and sword energy capable of cutting through restraints and enemies. 1258 1370
  • Can form a sword through intent alone, demonstrated when he cuts free from Master Zhong Si’s spider silk. 1370
  • His Sword Path advances during his consciousness duel with Zhang Chen, where he describes the sword in his heart as capable of severing his inner self. 1704
  • A single strike from his refined Divine Artifact cleaves a medium-sized realm. 1440

Talismans, Needles, and Formations

Jia Xin supplements cultivation with practical Daoist tools.

  • Fires True Essence-infused silver needles into acupoints and blind spots, then follows with high-speed footwork and immobilization techniques. 576
  • Uses talismans for sealing, ghost exorcism, barriers, spatial transfer, and tracking. 59 815 975
  • His Azure Dragon Binding can pin down targets even after he is severely injured. 576
  • He is skilled at arranging hidden needle formations and assessing supernatural locations. 794

Investigation and Deduction

Jia Xin’s perception and reasoning are among his most reliable assets.

  • Notices abnormal room layouts and supernatural readings before other investigators recognize the danger. 813
  • Deduces that members of Wen Lu’s team have been replaced by ghosts despite a memory-altering effect concealing their disappearances. 815
  • Tracks nearly invisible footprints on a riverbed and identifies Yu Ming’s high-fidelity clones. 975
  • His analyses repeatedly guide Zhang Chen’s group through major supernatural incidents. 998 1044

Story Role / Major Arcs

No. 1 Middle School and the Blood Demon

Jia Xin’s introduction establishes him as a young exorcist hidden among ordinary students. He saves Shen Qiutian’s class from Tian Yinghua, but the Blood Demon crisis reveals the extremes of his grief-driven actions and the existence of his inner demon. 59 67 258

Jailer and Cultivator Operations

As a Jailer Minister and Qingyun Sect leader, Jia Xin aids Zhang Chen in investigations and battles. He attempts to suppress Zhang Chen’s Gluttony, loses his right arm in the process, and still restrains Zhang Chen with the Azure Dragon Binding until Chong Ying intervenes. 576

In Mikasa City, Jia Xin prioritizes Qingyun Sect’s wider interests over his friendship with Zhang Chen, choosing to purify the city despite the personal consequences. 613

Shilin University Incident

Jia Xin returns to Shilin University under the cover of being a recovering student while investigating the Nine Heavens Yin Gathering. He identifies suspicious campus sites, confronts the butcher with the Dragon Slaying Art, and guides students through the Art Building’s ghost-filled wardrobe maze. 786 808 813 815

Ascension and Bodhi Patriarch’s Teachings

After gaining a Dao–Buddhist fused body, Jia Xin plans his Tribulation and seeks a route to the Buddhist domain outside the Dao Sect’s surveillance. 1137 He later studies under Bodhi Patriarch, receives the Confucian lineage, and becomes temporary manager of Slanting Moon Three Stars Cave. 1185 1257

Xiao Yu’s Truth and the Inner Demon

Yu Ming approaches Jia Xin with information about Xiao Yu’s sacrifice and persuades him to drink Corrosive Heart Water. Although Jia Xin’s body accepts the liquid, the encounter exposes the depth of the inner demon he has spent years suppressing. 1284 1285

Azathoth later recognizes Jia Xin’s rare fusion of the Three Teachings and attempts to draw out that concealed darkness. 1373 After Candle Dragon’s death, Jia Xin’s inner demon fully merges with his soul, leading him onto an increasingly dangerous path. 1440

Conflict with Yu Ming and Zhang Chen

Jia Xin’s apparent association with Azathoth and Yu Ming becomes deliberately ambiguous. He tells Zhang Chen that he is not aligned with Azathoth, but refuses to reveal his true motives until he has fully assessed the situation. 1626

When Jia Xin confronts Zhang Chen in the Ghoul Stomach World, he admits that Yu Ming has made him a pawn. Zhang Chen proposes a battle of consciousness to destroy Jia Xin’s inner demon; Jia Xin instead splits his own consciousness with Xiang Long, directly confronting the darkness within himself. 1702 1704
