After leaving Saint Nuwa, Chen Song rode Big White and leisurely ambled back to the human settlement struggling to survive on the Great Wilderness. He didn't reveal himself immediately, instead finding a hidden hilltop upwind and beginning his three-day "field survey" with Big White.
Looking at it truly made him numb.
The lives of these "kids" were even more "primitive" than he had imagined. Gathering wild fruits relied entirely on their bare hands. Occasionally, they'd find leftovers from large carnivorous beasts and treat it like a treasure, gnawing on it raw. The scene was once quite wild. They lived in dark, damp caves, and at night, the sound of incessant coughing could be heard. Forget about tools; even decent stone implements were rare.
"Sigh," Chen Song sighed, taking a bite of the Ginseng Fruit he brought. "This starting difficulty is worse than hell itself."
Big White lay beside him, drooling as it watched the humans below share a bone from an unknown beast. "Woof, boss, they're eating so deliciously... it just looks a bit hard on the teeth."
"Hard on the teeth?" A spark ignited in Chen Song's mind. He suddenly sat up, recalling his former history teacher's earth-shattering words—"The biggest difference between humans and animals is that humans can create and use tools!"
That's right! Giving them houses, fire, and clothes directly would be like pulling up seedlings to help them grow! They needed to comprehend the power of "tools" themselves!
A brilliant (and unscrupulous) plan quickly formed in his mind. A characteristic, slightly cunning smile appeared on his face as he patted Big White's head.
"Stupid dog, don't just watch. It's time for you to shine for our 'great nephews'!"
That day, a human hunting party composed of over a dozen strong young men was cautiously tracking a herd of relatively docile "Tusk Beasts" (similar to wild boars but larger). They clutched crude wooden sticks in their hands, their eyes filled with tension and longing.
Chen Song and Big White, like two behind-the-scenes manipulators, lurked nearby.
"Big White, see that huge rock with a sharp tip hanging by the cliff edge?" Chen Song transmitted his divine sense. "When that herd of Tusk Beasts is driven below, you 'accidentally' bump the loose rock next to it."
"Woof? Bump a rock? Boss, I'm good at this!" Big White didn't understand why it had to bump a rock, but out of its natural love for causing trouble, it excitedly lowered its body and, like a white lightning bolt, slammed into the base rock Chen Song had pointed out.
"RUMBLE!"
A slight tremor passed, and the sharp, huge rock swayed, on the verge of falling.
At the same time, Chen Song flicked his finger, and a subtle, imperceptible strand of Five Elements magic shot out, precisely hitting the hind leg of the fattest leader among the Tusk Beasts.
"ROAR--!"
The leader cried out in pain, emitting a terrified roar, and charged madly towards the narrow passage below the cliff. The entire herd was swept along, fleeing in chaos.
The timing was perfect!
"CRASH!!!"
The hanging, sharp boulder, under Big White's "perfectly timed" second impact, finally detached from the cliff face and, with immense force, accurately plummeted down!
"THUD!"
A muffled sound, accompanied by the crack of breaking bones. The boulder, without deviation, like a spear, pinned the fattest Tusk Beast leader firmly to the ground! Blood instantly stained the ground red.
The entire process was lightning-fast, filled with countless "coincidences."
The hunting party was stunned, staring blankly at the scene before them. The fierce beast they had chased for so long, which they could only flee from even with all their effort, was now... easily killed by a rock that "fell on its own"?
After a brief silence, immense joy erupted! They shouted and rushed forward, beginning to haul away this unprecedentedly bountiful prey.
But amidst the elation, a few sharp-minded youths couldn't help but cast their gazes, again and again, towards the blood-stained, sharply shaped boulder. They touched its cold, hard surface with their hands, feeling its sharp edge that easily tore flesh...
A vague thought, like a seed, sprouted in their hearts: So, without teeth and claws, without desperately hitting with wooden sticks, by using these natural, hard, shaped stones, food could be obtained so easily!
Not long after, Chen Song and Big White "comfortably" watched as people in the settlement began consciously collecting sharp stone fragments to cut beast meat; some started trying to tie stones to wooden sticks to increase striking power; some even imitated the shape of that "divine stone from the sky" and actively smashed and knocked other stones, attempting to create similar "sharp tools."
The prototype of tools quietly emerged among the Human Race.
Having solved the enlightenment of "offensive tools," the next step was "defensive fortifications"—shelter.
Chen Song didn't directly teach them how to build houses; that would be too demeaning. He rode Big White and leisurely made a trip to Wa Huang Palace.
"Disciple Chen Song seeks an audience with Martial Uncle Nuwa!" Chen Song bowed outside the palace gate.
Saint Nuwa, with her dharma eye, naturally knew why he was there. Her voice, with a hint of a smile, echoed out, "What are you here for again? You may handle matters concerning the Human Race yourself."
"Martial Uncle, please see!" Chen Song's thick skin was comparable to the base of Buzhou Mountain. "This disciple is not here to ask for help, but to borrow two immortal fairies from you. They don't need to take action, just fly a few circles above the human settlement according to their natural instincts, rest their feet, and occasionally... build a nest or something."
A moment later, Qing Luan and Jinfeng, two peerlessly beautiful attendants, gracefully flew out. Upon hearing Chen Song's request, their pretty faces were filled with speechlessness.
"Chen Song... Senior Brother, you want us to... perform nest-building for humans?" Qing Luan's tone was filled with disbelief.
"Precisely!" Chen Song spoke nonsense with utmost seriousness. "This is an act of enlightenment, immeasurable in merit! The two immortal fairies only need to display the beauty of their nature, and the rest will be left to fate!"
Out of respect for the Saint's decree, Qing Luan and Jinfeng reluctantly agreed. They transformed into their original forms—two divine, extraordinary, and brilliantly radiant immortal birds—and flew over the human settlement.
In the following days, the humans often saw those two divine birds, as beautiful as a dream, elegantly carrying twigs and spirit grass, weaving and building an exquisite and sturdy bird's nest among the branches of a giant tree near the settlement in a pleasing manner. The nests remained unharmed when the wind blew; they were dry and warm inside when the rain fell.
This magical sight mesmerized the humans. For the first time, they realized so directly that "home" didn't have to be on the ground; it could be in trees, and it could be "built" so ingeniously!
Having only "high-end demonstrations" wasn't enough; Chen Song decided to add something more "down-to-earth."
"Big White, it's your turn! See those holes in the rock face over there? There are several types of birds that are good at building nests inside. Go, 'help' them optimize their nest structures. You can be a bit rough, make sure the humans can clearly see the 'building materials' and the 'construction process'!"
Big White received the order and excitedly rushed over. It didn't harm the birds.
Instead, it used its paws to scratch and its nose to nudge, "accidentally" scattering the branches, mud, feathers, and other materials the birds used for building nests everywhere. It even imitated the birds' movements, clumsily crossing a few branches together with its paws and mouth, creating a rudimentary "doghouse" that was a "four unlike" structure. Although it collapsed several times, the process was fully exposed.
Now, even the slowest humans understood. The divine birds' nests might be too high-end, but the nest-building behavior of this strange white dog (a "feral beast" in their eyes) and ordinary birds could be observed and imitated!
Thus, the most observant individuals in the settlement stepped forward. They imitated the birds, searching for flexible branches and vines, mimicking the cross-weaving structure, and began trying to build elevated platforms between several adjacent trees. The initial creations were crooked, and some even fell a few times, but they were tireless and constantly improved.
Finally, the first "nest-house" in the truest sense, built by the humans themselves and capable of stably supporting the weight of several people, was born! Although still crude, when those few people bravely moved in and spent a night safely without ground dampness or beast disturbances, the entire settlement erupted!
The young man who showed outstanding leadership and creativity during the house-building process was respectfully called—"You Chao Shi"!
Chen Song, on a distant hilltop, flicked a pine nut, hitting Big White's backside as it was still grinning foolishly at its doghouse.
"Let's go!"
