Background / History

Nuwa appears at the Purple Heaven Palace with her elder brother, Fuxi. Curious about Chen Song's Five-Needle Pine true form as artifact-refining material, she accepts his offered branch but cautions him not to damage his Five Elements origin. 4

She and Fuxi later join Di Jun and Taiyi's Heavenly Court under the honorary titles Empress Wa and Emperor Xi. Nuwa accepts partly because the Heavenly Court's Destiny may support her pursuit of Creation Merit and Sainthood, while she and Fuxi intend to avoid becoming deeply involved in its mundane affairs. 31

At her Buzhou Mountain dojo, Nuwa senses her opportunity for creation but initially fails to animate birds, beasts, fish, and humanoid clay figures made from Nine Heavens Breathing Soil. Chen Song advises her to create an entirely new race in the form of an Innate Dao Body, then identifies vital blood as the missing origin of life. 44 45

Using her blood as the source of life, Nuwa creates the first Innate Humans. She then combines Nine Heavens Breathing Soil, Three Lights Divine Water, and a Five Elements branch from Chen Song to produce humanity on a large scale. The merit of this act makes her the first Saint of the Mystic Gate, and the newborn humans hail her as their Holy Mother. 45 46
