History

Luffy’s crew begins when he drifts onto Roman’s ship and repeatedly asks Roman to become his nakama. Roman initially attacks him, claims to have killed his former captain for the Paper-Paper Fruit, and refuses the offer; he ultimately relents, lets Luffy take the helm, and becomes his crewmate. 3

The early crew adds Nami as navigator and soon consists of five members under Roman’s training regimen.
