Zero and One Signal?

As humanity continued along the Star Path, undertaking the final 347-light-year stretch of its journey, Lyra received a message from the Probe Spaceship Squad on the outskirts of the Great Fleet. Since the fleet was traveling at warp speed, the message had not been transmitted through electromagnetic waves, but through Tachyon Communication, a technology only a Level 4 Civilization could master.

Humanity's communication systems had now all been upgraded. Communications between ships and warships had been switched to Tachyon Communication, though traditional communication systems had not been completely discarded and were still used within every vessel.

Things like Humanity's internal Network System were actually part of the traditional communication system. Traditional electronic communication technology was simply too convenient, and when used inside a spaceship, it had no latency issues at all.

Communication between ships, however, was another matter. It was not that traditional electromagnetic-wave communication failed once a ship entered warp; after all, if both ships were in warp, then from light's perspective, they were effectively stationary.

The problem lay in communication between a ship in warp and one that was not. Traditional optoelectronic communication could not solve that, leaving Tachyon Communication as the only option.

Thus, Human Civilization now combined both methods: Tachyon Communication between vessels and traditional electromagnetic waves within them. Why not use Tachyon Communication inside the vessels as well? The reason was simple: humanity did not have tachyon conductors that could serve as wiring like optoelectronic conductors.

Yet once the signal reached Lyra, the scientists who saw its form were briefly stunned. They had no idea what information it carried. They only knew that it was definitely not a type of signal that could occur naturally.
