Background
Scizor hatched from an Egg after being entrusted to Ying Shi through Heracross and Heracross's older brother. Its father had led a Scyther clan before black-uniformed humans attacked the clan; Scizor later learned that both parents had died at human hands. The revelation gave it a lasting desire to grow stronger and avenge them. 130 132
As a Scyther, it spent several days reducing its training load and adjusting its condition for evolution. Ying Shi evolved it in a secluded forest clearing, with Beedrill guarding the area against interruption. 127
Appearance
Scizor is a red, armored Pokémon whose body became more than ten centimeters taller than its 1.6-meter Scyther form after evolution. Its evolution replaced its paired scythes with large pincers. 127
- Covered in hard, crimson armor with a metallic, icy-cool surface. 127 128
- Has two pairs of translucent wings. 127
- Its pincers bear eye-like patterns used to intimidate opponents. 127
- Its evolution increased its weight, attack, and defense, while reducing its natural speed. 128 133
Personality
Scizor is intensely competitive and strongly motivated by self-improvement. Immediately after evolving, it wanted to challenge Beedrill, and it persistently sought a rematch with Heracross after their earlier encounter. 128 133
Its determination can turn into frustration when it cannot overcome an obstacle. During Muramasa's blindfolded clan trial, repeated failures made it increasingly aggressive until Beedrill's advice helped it calm down and alter its approach. 182 183
It is also capable of empathy. While traveling with Ying Shi, it invited a wild Scizor family and three young Scyther to share food, visibly happy to see them eat. 161
Abilities & Skills
Physical Combat
Scizor specializes in close-range pincer attacks, combining its armored body, increased weight, and strong defense with explosive bursts of speed.
- Its evolution shifted its primary strengths from speed and attack to attack and defense. 128 133
- Defeated Heracross by using Double Team to drain its stamina, then striking with Bullet Punch from above. 135
- Defeated Ishida's Scizor by timing Bullet Punch through the opponent's Double Team. 193
- Used Iron Head to defeat Kingdra. 707
- Its major physical techniques include Bullet Punch, Brick Break, Flinch, and Vacuum Wave; Vacuum Wave had reached Ultimate proficiency. 137 164
Perception and Blind Combat
Muramasa trained Scizor to fight while blindfolded, relying on hearing, instinct, and its developing ability to sense energy.
- Can enter a Perception state that detects living targets within roughly a 20-meter radius, though their shapes initially appear indistinct. 181
- Learned to distinguish a real body from Double Team clones by sensing the difference in their energy flow. 166 193
- Its perception initially lagged behind fast opponents and became unreliable when under sustained attack. 165 183
- Repeated trials against Scyther and Scizor opponents improved its combat instincts, sensory awareness, and tactical decision-making. 186 187
Cross Chop / Cross Cut
Scizor learned a combination Skill under Muramasa's instruction by merging Bug-type Cross Cut energy with Normal-type Whirlwind Blade energy.
- Its first attempts failed when the two energies repelled one another and exploded. 177
- It succeeded after carefully incorporating external Normal-type energy particles during the fusion process. 177
- The completed technique produces cross-shaped wind blades and demands substantial energy. 177 361
- Cross Cut was powerful enough to break through Magneton's defenses and land a decisive strike. 358 359
Fire-Type Hidden Power
Scizor's Hidden Power manifests as fire.
- It can fire a pillar of flame from its mouth at range. 134
- Its Fire-type Hidden Power was disadvantaged against Heracross's Water-type Hidden Power. 134
- It combined Hidden Power with Swords Dance during the clan trial, turning itself into a spinning, fire-covered attack. 186
- It also uses Flamethrower to counter ice-based attacks. 676
Mobility and Deception
Despite its post-evolution loss of natural speed, Scizor continually trains to recover and improve its mobility.
- Uses Agility for sudden acceleration and evasive movement. 182 708
- Uses Double Team and Substitute to misdirect enemies and create escape opportunities. 135 187
- Its rapid movement can produce afterimages and, at higher speeds, small sonic booms; it can dampen the sound with an energy membrane around its body. 900
- Its repeated use of Double Team and Substitute eventually made Muramasa's clan Scizors learn counters to both techniques. 186
Equipment / Items
- Metal Coat and Evolution Liquid — materials Ying Shi used to evolve Scyther into Scizor. 127
- Weight Training Device — a black metal ring worn around its waist during battle and training; disabling it gives Scizor a major immediate increase in speed and power. 175 359
- Heavy training gauntlets — upgraded equipment that initially made its pincers difficult to lift, swing, and use for flight. 298
- Metronome — a green vest-like device that increases the power and speed of consecutive uses of the same move; the effect resets when Scizor changes moves. 747
Relationships
- Ying Shi — Trainer; personally prepared its evolution, trains it intensively, and supports its drive to become stronger. 127 175 359
- Beedrill — Older-brother figure; guarded its evolution, affirms its progress, and helped it regain composure during the clan trial. 127 132 183
- Heracross — Teammate and rival; revealed Scizor's origins, then lost a close battle to Scizor. 130 135
- Muramasa — Mentor; recognized Scizor's potential and personally trained its perception, practical combat ability, and Combination Skills. 164 175
- Zong Zheng — Muramasa's Elite Four-level Scizor; served as Scizor's sparring partner and earned its admiration through overwhelming strength and experience. 164 175
- Vegetable Bundle — An Advanced-level Scizor and the leader's child; repeatedly disrupted Scizor's trial through a binding tactic before Scizor decisively retaliated. 184 185
- Pinsir — A friend connected to Scizor's early life; reunited with Scizor years after it had hatched and recognized Ying Shi's success in raising it. 976
