Background / History
Heracross was born from an egg found in Pinsir territory by a powerful Pinsir, whom it came to regard as its father. The Pinsir rejected being called “Dad,” forcing the young Heracross to call him “Big Brother” instead. Searches of Heracross swarms throughout Viridian Forest failed to locate its biological parents, so Pinsir raised it himself. 131 975
Under Pinsir's harsh guidance, Heracross trained by dodging thrown rocks, enduring waterfall impacts, practicing hand-to-hand combat without moves, battling similarly strong Pokémon, and being forced to build endurance through punishment. This training developed its combat instincts, durability, and unusually high move proficiency. 136 134
Pinsir had previously taken responsibility for a Scyther egg entrusted to him by the dying leader of a Scyther swarm. After observing Ying Shi's actions during a poaching incident and judging his training ability, Pinsir sent Heracross to test Ying Shi's Beedrill. Following Beedrill's successful battle against it, Heracross later delivered the Scyther egg that hatched into Scizor. 47 131
Heracross later traveled with Pinsir beyond Viridian Forest in search of strong opponents. It was ambushed by Crobat, Houndoom, Golem, Donphan, and Persian amid a misunderstanding, sustaining severe injuries before Ying Shi, Beedrill, and Scizor intervened. Ying Shi treated its wounds, and Heracross chose to remain with him after recovering. 128 129 130 133
Appearance
Heracross is a blue, rhinoceros beetle-like Pokémon with a prominent single horn and wings. Under Ying Shi's training, it grew far beyond ordinary Heracross proportions. 38 898
- Reached 1.85 meters in height, 45 centimeters taller than a normal Heracross. 898
- Reached 85 kilograms, 40 kilograms heavier than a normal Heracross. 898
- Its enlarged body and metallic sheen create an intimidating presence that unsettles weaker opponents. 898
- As Mega Heracross, its forehead horn becomes a thick spike, an additional horn grows before it, and its arms become bulky, bullet-shaped weapons. 914
- Mega Heracross retains the Bug/Fighting typing. 915
Personality
Heracross is simple-minded, trusting, food-motivated, and deeply attached to Pinsir, whom it regards as its older brother. It trusted Ying Shi because Pinsir had approved of him, and it readily shared its history once brought into Ying Shi's care. 131
Unlike its battle-oriented appearance and exceptional talent suggest, Heracross dislikes fighting and training. It would rather eat, sleep, and rest, often pretending to train when Ying Shi is watching while slacking off when unsupervised. Threats to withhold meals are particularly effective motivation. 133 134 137 298
Despite this laziness, Heracross becomes composed and determined in serious combat. It can endure punishment, adapt to enemy tactics, and fight through injuries when commanded by Ying Shi or when protecting those important to it. 155 258 819

Mega Evolution
Heracross can Mega Evolve when linked to Ying Shi through a Keystone and its Mega Stone.
- Mega Evolution substantially increases its energy and offensive output. 914 915
- Mega Heracross's stated base stat total rises from 500 to 600, with Attack increasing to 185. 915
- It was able to contend directly with Lorelei's Lapras after Mega Evolving, though Absolute Zero ultimately left it unable to battle. 1012
- Mega Evolution heavily consumes stamina and initially could only be maintained for a short period. 914
Training
- Pinsir trained Heracross through rock-dodging drills, waterfall endurance, unarmed close combat, real battles, and harsh durability conditioning. 136
- Ying Shi used robot dummies and weighted training equipment to refine Heracross's reactions, strength, and ability to recognize weak points. 157
- Heracross initially struggled against four robot dummies but learned to locate their weaknesses quickly through repeated training. 157
- It only trains diligently under supervision unless food is used as an incentive. 137 298
