Background
Cheng Mengyao first traveled with Han Fei through an underground ruin while concealing both her identity and much of her strength. She revealed her name after Han Fei noted that she had maintained a position where others could not defeat or kill her. In the ruin, she alone could see and inherit a hidden cultivation technique from writing on a desk; Han Fei could not perceive the text at all. She later accepted a damaged inner armor after misrepresenting its grade to him. 50 51
Her inherited technique manifested as a wind shield during cultivation. After she and Han Fei escaped the puppet tower’s trial, she used a white-crane artifact to take him from a remote island to Asura Island, where the guards recognized her status. She attempted to recruit Han Fei into the Asura Hall, but he remained committed to the Tianyuan Divine Sect. 52 55
On Asura Island, her father—the Shura God—initially confined Han Fei in an effort to force him into the Asura Hall. Cheng Mengyao stole the token for the island’s teleportation array and tried to release him. When the Shura God intervened, she held a sword to her own throat and swore with her life that Han Fei would never disclose Shura Island’s location. The Shura God ultimately allowed both of them to leave. 59
After leaving the island, Cheng Mengyao received Red Aunt’s Soul-Breaking Orb for protection. Her attachment to Han Fei deepened during their journey, despite their factions’ hostility and her earlier attempt to bring him to Asura Island against his wishes. 60
During the conflict with Qi Xuanxuan, Cheng Mengyao deliberately concealed the gap between their cultivation levels because Han Fei had asked her not to hurt Qi Xuanxuan or damage her pride. When Han Fei was critically weakened, she disarmed Qi Xuanxuan in a single exchange, took her hostage, and helped secure Han Fei’s escape. 65 66 101
Cheng Mengyao later struggled with guilt over Uncle Lan’s death and the widening gap between her and Han Fei. On the island above the Ice-Fire Palace, she met a scattered immortal who accepted her as a daughter and began personally guiding her cultivation. 111 188
After Han Fei entered the Void Realm, Cheng Mengyao waited for him on Junluo Mountain and later at the True Emperor Academy’s teleportation platform. She trained at the academy for nearly a decade, becoming a named disciple whose beauty, bearing, and powerful patronage drew widespread attention. 242 245 247
Following Han Fei’s return, she met his parents as his acknowledged companion. She and Han Fei later consummated their relationship. 279 289
Appearance
Cheng Mengyao initially conceals herself beneath a black veil. Later accounts emphasize her striking beauty, increasingly noble bearing, and a more reserved demeanor shaped by years of cultivation. 50 245 285
- Initially appears as a black-veiled woman. 50
- Has long hair, which Han Fei gently smooths before their intimacy. 289
- Her former lively manner becomes notably more restrained over time. 285
- Her presence at the True Emperor Academy eclipses the reputation of its former “first beauty.” 245
Personality
Cheng Mengyao is intelligent, guarded, and capable of deception when she believes it will protect Han Fei or advance her goals. She hid her cultivation from Qi Xuanxuan, misrepresented the grade of the inner armor she received in the ruins, and maneuvered Han Fei into arriving at Asura Island. 50 55 101
Her protectiveness toward Han Fei repeatedly overrides her loyalty to the Asura Hall. She risks her reputation, defies her father, and threatens her own life so that Han Fei can leave Shura Island freely. 59
Although initially overbearing, Cheng Mengyao becomes increasingly reserved and self-disciplined. Her longing for Han Fei motivates her cultivation, while her guilt over Uncle Lan’s death leaves her emotionally exhausted for a time. 60 111 242 285
