Background / History
Li Ping'an was born the son of the wealthy mortal merchant Li Dazhi and began cultivating only as an adult, placing him at a disadvantage compared with cultivators aided by Innate Qi from childhood. At Flowing Cloud Temple, he spent nearly all his time cultivating alone, attending only the temple's recurring Immortal Lectures. Wei Yanzi praised his intense drive, temperament, and exceptional comprehension despite doubts from others about his prospects of becoming an immortal. 5
He studied under Daoist Priest Chen Gongmin before entering the Myriad Cloud Sect's outer-sect path. He later became Qingxu's disciple and regarded Yun Zhongzi as his teacher, receiving teachings associated with the Jade Void Palace. 18 41 107
His early cultivation was marked by an unusual balance between the Myriad Cloud Art and auxiliary paths: artifact refining, pill refining, talismans, formations, and techniques. His Dao body manifested these as five distinct Dao principles, with the mist-shrouded principle associated with his primary cultivation strongest among them. 39 87
After becoming aware of a future calamity involving his father, Li Ping'an reoriented himself toward improving his Dao realm rather than treating crafting as his primary focus. He rejected the idea that destiny was fixed and sought enough strength to change the outcome himself. 63
Much later, a figure calling himself his teacher revealed that Li Ping'an might not be the “real” Li Ping'an, forcing him to confront memories involving Li Dazhi's attempt to save him in the Gobi Desert. The revelation remains unresolved in the supplied material. 628
Appearance
Li Ping'an is a lean young Daoist whose cultivation gives him a faintly otherworldly presence. He favors simple robes; during his time at Flowing Cloud Temple, he wore a bright white inner garment beneath a blue outer robe. 14
- Sword-like brows and clear, star-like eyes.
- A faint, seemingly harmless smile.
- Long hair when fighting with the Cloud Soaring Illusionary Form. 14 91
- Frequently uses masks, transformation techniques, and borrowed identities while operating covertly. 68 111 116
Personality
Li Ping'an is independent, pragmatic, and unusually self-directed. He declined an offer of better cultivation arrangements near the Affairs Hall in favor of remaining at Flowing Cloud Temple and following his own path toward the outer-sect assessment. 13
He combines a stable Dao heart with a calculating temperament. He evaluates potential allies, engineers political revelations, and routinely disguises himself to gather intelligence or avoid attention. His strategic conduct is not limited to combat: he helped expose Forge Heaven Gate's influence over the Kuiyuan Sect and designed Eastern Alliance policies under a false identity without claiming credit. 20 82 153
Although he seeks longevity and repeatedly tries to avoid being used as another power's pawn, Li Ping'an is driven by a strong sense of responsibility toward ordinary people and institutional reform. He is prepared to force decisive change against entrenched corruption, even when it produces political turmoil. 186 236 164

- Developed an automated artifact-refining production line using twelve modified magic artifacts connected by conveyor belts. 39
- Produced a common-grade flying sword of upper-middle quality during a public demonstration of the system. 39

- Studied the Kuiyuan Sect's puppet-refining methods to improve magic artifacts, magic treasures, immortal treasures, and his proposed self-propelled immortal armor. 86 143
- Identified the Devouring Artifact Art and recognized when an artifact refiner had corrupted their path by feeding spiritual treasures to an artifact spirit. 84
