Li Ping'an was born the son of the wealthy mortal merchant Li Dazhi and began cultivating only as an adult, placing him at a disadvantage compared with cultivators aided by Innate Qi from childhood. At Flowing Cloud Temple, he spent nearly all his time cultivating alone, attending only the temple's recurring Immortal Lectures. Wei Yanzi praised his intense drive, temperament, and exceptional comprehension despite doubts from others about his prospects of becoming an immortal. 5
