Background / History

As a youth, Ji Xuanyuan defended his mother and sister during an assault by snake-riding invaders. Imperial General Li Mu, sent by the Flame Emperor to mediate, arrived in time to save him. This encounter began Xuanyuan's enduring bond with Li Mu. 157

Xuanyuan's You Xiong Kingdom rose rapidly after a great disaster. He led its warriors and chariots against the nations of the Hundred Races, gathering people, educating them, and continuing its campaigns. After learning that Li Mu had been demoted to herding sheep near the North Sea, he personally travelled tens of thousands of miles to bring Li Mu back as You Xiong's Prime Minister. 157

He became the last Human Emperor of the ancient era. His defining accomplishment was suppressing the Hundred Races' counterattack, principally led by “Later Wu,” and securing the human race's dominant position. 70 Although later histories differ on the classification of the Three Sovereigns and Five Emperors, some place Xuanyuan first among the Five Emperors. 70

In the later era, Xuanyuan remained responsible for the Eastern Alliance's six million immortal soldiers and the human race's security. He refused to personally establish a Heavenly Court because he and the Heavenly Dao were not aligned, and because a human-led court without sufficient strength could be controlled by stronger sects. 157 179 180

Xuanyuan can conceal his status so completely that he appears to be an ordinary mortal man, but his bearing remains unmistakably dignified. 154

Legacy

Xuanyuan ordered that, after his death, no descendant outside the Southern Continent should claim the title of Human Emperor. He directed Nu Ba to transfer the Eastern Alliance's remaining troops and treasury to the Heavenly Court, ensuring that the Human Emperor's authority would not compete with Li Ping'an's rule. 503

His tomb was built outside the Southern Continent's Absolute Heaven Great Formation. Its central Xuanyuan Hall contains statues of Xuanyuan and his principal consorts, while its walls record ten of his most celebrated battles. 507
