Background

Before entering the Ninja Academy, Sasuke was an innocent child determined to earn his father Fugaku's approval. He practiced the Great Fireball Technique in hopes of catching up to Itachi, but Fugaku dismissed that goal, while Itachi kept his distance after joining the Anbu. 30 32

Uchiha Kaze recognized Sasuke's diligence and potential, encouraged his Great Fireball training, and began guiding him. Sasuke repeatedly pushed his chakra reserves beyond their limit while seeking further instruction, eventually collapsing from chakra exhaustion; Kaze carried him home. 32 35

Sasuke came to regard Kaze as his teacher and reacted jealously when Naruto sought Lightning Release training from him. Kaze reassured Sasuke that he would teach him, while Sasuke's rivalry with Naruto began through their competition for Kaze's attention. 81 84
