Background

Agin served as Krieg’s trusted subordinate and was sent to convey the Krieg Pirates’ proposed alliance with Lowett. He recognized that Lowett’s undead force was overwhelmingly dangerous, but carried out his captain’s order despite expecting that he might die. 54 55

At Vicero Island, Agin fought Lowett directly with his spiked balls. His assault managed to crack Lowett’s Mana Shield, but he withdrew when it became clear that the gap between them was insurmountable. The Krieg Pirates were subsequently annihilated. 59 60

As the sole survivor, Agin located Krieg and attempted to atone for his own misjudgment by letting his captain kill him. When the Navy pursued Krieg after he committed murder in a tavern, Agin surrendered himself to ensure Krieg’s escape. Lowett later revealed that he had arranged the Navy’s arrival; Agin asked him to publicly accept blame for betraying Krieg so that Krieg’s reputation could be preserved. 60

After joining Lowett’s side, Agin read Crocus’s logbook concerning Gol D. Roger and concluded that he needed strength to survive the Grand Line. He asked Lowett to teach him magic, but his first resonance test lasted five days—far beyond the three-day failure threshold. He instead chose painful physical modification and rune reinforcement. 67 68

Agin’s modified Black Knight body is predominantly gold and built for durability. He can return to a human-sized form, but his combat transformations are markedly inhuman. 91 576

Personality

Agin is intensely loyal and self-critical. After the Krieg Pirates’ destruction, he rejected Lowett’s claim that Krieg had abandoned him and instead insisted that he himself had betrayed Krieg through blind loyalty and poor judgment. 60

His desire to become stronger stems from an awareness of his own limits rather than simple ambition. He accepted dangerous modification after failing as a prospective mage, and later felt ashamed when Lowett had to intervene against King. 68 576

Although he is serious in combat and capable of careful deduction, Agin has an enthusiastic, more ordinary side: he follows the Paramecia User Fighting Tournament and openly roots for favored competitors. 317 685
