Background / History

Professor X operates Xavier's School for Gifted Youngsters in New York, a well-funded school established in his family mansion to educate mutant children, help them control their abilities, and protect them from persecution. He finances much of its advanced equipment, including its aircraft, and is widely respected by its students and staff. 7

While recruiting through Cerebro in Sokovia, he detects Pietro and visits the Maximoff household with Cyclops. He identifies Pietro as a mutant and suspects both Wanda and Hawking may be mutants due to their abilities, although Hawking's mind cannot be read or sensed by him. He recruits all three children and arranges Oleg and Elena's immigration, employment, and settlement in New York. 5 6 7

Colonel Stryker later captures Professor X, intending to exploit his connection to Cerebro to locate and kill mutants worldwide. Hawking and the X-Men interrupt Magneto's attempt to redirect Cerebro against humanity, kill Mastermind, and free Professor X from psychic control. 13 19 20
