Background / History

Sages are among the foremost powers of the Primordial World. Primordial Heavenly Venerate is identified as a Sage when Lu Changqing employs him to create Wuji Heaven, a Great Thousand World, on Wuji Peak 4.

Initially, Sages are treated as exceptionally rare beings whose status cannot be attained through Merit alone; Yuanshi argues that foundation, aptitude, cultivation, and comprehension are all necessary 18. Lu Changqing overturns this assumption by using Merit and Primordial Violet Qi to support qualified Quasi-Saints in achieving the Dao 18 27.

Wuji Heaven becomes the principal force behind the rapid expansion of the Sage population. Its candidates sign Heavenly Dao contracts in exchange for resources and an opportunity to attain Sainthood, usually accepting obligations to serve Wuji Heaven after their breakthroughs 23 30 40. By Chapter 185, Lu Changqing creates ten thousand Saints in a single undertaking, raising the total number beyond fifty thousand 185.

Sages can open and develop Great Thousand Worlds, a task that requires their laws, divine power, and a degree of origin power.

• Primordial Heavenly Venerate uses the Pangu Banner to form Wuji Heaven, gathering earth, fire, wind, water, time, space, yin and yang, and the five elements into a new world 4.
• His Sage-level power completes in one hundred years a process said to ordinarily require three thousand years 4.
• Lu Changqing later hires six Saints to create additional Great Thousand Worlds, turning world creation into a major source of Merit 10 18.

Saintly Might

A Sage's presence carries immense pressure and can affect the surrounding heavens and earth.

• Primordial Heavenly Venerate's arrival at Wuji Peak is accompanied by purple mist, auspicious phenomena, and Saintly Might that covers ten thousand miles 4.
• His power manifests through the Three Thousand Laws and is sufficient to shake stars, space, and the Myriad Worlds during world creation 4.
• Sages can serve as key nodes in large formations; the Wuji Saint-Slaying Formation places a Saint at every position and is powerful enough to severely injure Laozi during a test 39.

Dao Attainment

Sainthood is commonly associated with attaining the Dao through Primordial Violet Qi, Merit, and adequate cultivation.

• The Primordial Shore Flower can produce Primordial Violet Qi, which Lu Changqing uses as a foundation for his plan to create Saints 18.
• Merit can accelerate the flower's production of Primordial Violet Qi and assist candidates in their breakthroughs 18 27.
• Wuji Heaven requires many candidates to sign binding Heavenly Dao contracts before receiving the resources needed for Sainthood 23 30 40.

• Kunpeng, East King Duke, and Ran Deng — pledged lifelong loyalty to Lu Changqing in return for the resources needed to attain Sainthood 23.
• Ming He — received Primordial Violet Qi after agreeing to a Heavenly Dao contract with Lu Changqing 30.
• Xi He and Chang Xi — agreed to serve Wuji Heaven after attaining the Dao; their contract required obedience in tasks such as opening territory and establishing realms 40.
• Di Jun and Tai Yi — received Primordial Violet Qi and Merit after agreeing to assist with the Chaos Grand Zhou Heavenly Profound Spirit Array 60.
• The Four Sacred Beasts — signed contracts and each received a strand of Primordial Violet Qi and one hundred million Merit 117.
