Background

Mei grew up largely alone. Her mother was sickly and died young, while Raiden Ryoma was frequently absent due to ME Company affairs. After Mei was kidnapped as a child, Ryoma had her study kendo so she could protect herself. 32 33

As the wealthy and beautiful daughter of ME Company’s president, Mei attracted considerable attention at Chiyou Academy. Her guarded response to others’ favor earned her the nickname “Queen Raiden.” 32

In 2013, Ryoma was publicly taken in for investigation over alleged economic crimes. Mei’s classmates immediately began ostracizing her, but she maintained her composure and refused to fight them because losing her student status would further jeopardize her efforts to help her father. 32

Behind the investigation, Cocolia had arranged to isolate Mei and intensify her negative emotions. Her plan was to trigger a large Honkai event in Changkong City, awaken Mei as a Herrscher, and use Mei’s Stigmata to preserve her human consciousness. 36

Chen Ran intervened during the bullying and offered to investigate Ryoma’s case. After showing Mei his Honkai-based wind abilities and explaining that her father’s case involved forces beyond ordinary crime, he gave her a concrete goal: clear Ryoma’s name and rescue him. Mei did not fully trust Chen Ran, but agreed to work with him. 33
