| Name | Mobius (梅比乌斯) |
| Gender | Female |
| Affiliation | Flame-Chasers; First Research Institute |
| Occupation/Role | Doctor; biologist; head researcher of the First Research Institute |
| First Appearance | Chapter 3 |
Background / History
Mobius is a veteran of the Flame-Chasers and its foremost biological researcher. She designed much of the organization’s general-purpose weaponry, combat-enhancing drugs, and physical training regimen, helping Flame-Chaser forces retain an advantage during earlier Honkai incidents. Her specialization is biology rather than materials science, and she is considerably more interested in Herrscher remains and Honkai-related evolution than conventional weapons development. 3
Before Chen Ran’s arrival, Mobius had already attempted to fuse Herrscher Cores with humans. These experiments repeatedly failed; she considered them a personal disgrace and destroyed the associated data. Despite this, she grants Chen Ran special permission to study the Third Herrscher Core when he proposes another attempt. 12
Her research gradually shifts toward the relationship among genes, memory, consciousness, Honkai Energy compatibility, and Stigmata. She begins experiments intended to transcribe memories of resisting Honkai into genes, first using laboratory animals. The animal subjects die after developing Honkai reactions, leading Mobius to conclude that the problem lies in the experimental materials rather than the theoretical design. 23 26
Chen Ran’s anomalous body and Stigmata make him Mobius’s most valuable research subject. His data leads her to believe that humans and Honkai may be capable of perfect integration, with Stigmata functioning as an analogue to a Herrscher Core. 27 38
Appearance
Mobius is a green-haired woman whose presence is frequently described as unsettling, particularly when she is focused on an experiment. 3 39
- Green hair. 3
- Often wears a lab coat while conducting experiments. 27
- Her gaze is compared to that of a venomous snake when examining potential subjects. 39
Personality
Mobius is intensely pragmatic, efficient, and intellectually driven. She dislikes routine administration, emails, and research she considers familiar or uninteresting; Blanca often manages such matters for her. 6 12
Her central interest is the unknown nature of Honkai and biological evolution. Mobius regards the side effects of strength-enhancing drugs as an acceptable cost of power, arguing that sacrifice is necessary. 6 She is willing to disregard ethical restrictions on human experimentation when she believes they obstruct progress, though her experiments are portrayed as rigorous and directed toward advancing humanity rather than causing harm for its own sake. 27 40
She is possessive of valuable researchers and subjects. Mobius resents Blanca’s increasing focus on her family and refuses attempts by the First Squad or Vill-V to permanently claim Chen Ran from the First Research Institute. 9 42
Abilities & Skills
Biological Research
Mobius is regarded as the most outstanding scientific talent among the Flame-Chasers’ research institutes, with expertise spanning biology and Honkai-related life sciences. 8
- Developed Flame-Chaser strength-enhancing drugs and general-purpose weapons. 3 8
- Designed physical training intended to push recruits to the limits of human endurance. 3
- Studies Herrscher cellular tissue, Honkai adaptation, genetic transcription, and hereditary information. 20 27
- Investigated human–Herrscher Core fusion before the main story’s events. 12
Stigmata and Honkai Evolution Research
Mobius identifies consciousness and memory as essential factors in Honkai adaptation, revising her earlier experimental approach after studying Chen Ran. 27 38
- Attempts to encode memories of fighting Honkai into genes to cultivate Honkai Energy compatibility. 23 26
- Determines that animal test subjects cannot properly accept Honkai-combat memories because the memories interfere with their brainwaves. 38
- Concludes that experiments involving Honkai-combat memories must use human subjects. 38
- Considers Stigmata a route toward integrating Honkai into human genes while retaining consciousness. 27
- States that Stigmata power is condensed consciousness and can theoretically enable travel through time when fully developed. 48
Experimental Medicine
Mobius develops specialized agents that alter physical capacity and Honkai compatibility. 6 38 40
- Her strength-enhancing drugs significantly increase users’ strength but accelerate cell division and may cause cellular mutation or cancer. 6
- Injects Chen Ran with an anti-Honkai memory-activating agent derived from research involving him and MEI. 38
- Creates a potion that activates Chen Ran’s Honkai Energy compatibility and substantially improves his physical condition. 40
- Conducts extensive physical monitoring of Chen Ran through daily examinations arranged with Blanca. 38 40
Relationships
- Blanca — Her longtime assistant and trusted confidante. Mobius relies on Blanca’s judgment, though she is displeased by Blanca’s growing commitment to her husband Heng and daughter Griseo. 6 9
- Chen Ran / No. 666 — Research assistant and later Mobius’s most important experimental subject. She views his Stigmata and unusual Honkai compatibility as a path toward human evolution. 20 27 42
- MEI — A talented younger researcher whom Mobius calls a “monster of reason.” Mobius supports MEI and Chen Ran’s research with data and institutional resources while remaining mostly hands-off. 9 17 42
- Vill-V — A fellow Flame-Chaser researcher whose repeated requests to borrow Chen Ran irritate Mobius. 42
- Wendy — Mobius later approaches Wendy in the Elysian Realm and offers cooperation based on Stigmata research connected to Chen Ran and MEI. 41 48
- Little Griseo — Blanca’s daughter, whom Mobius dotes on and once hoped to guide into biological research. 42
Story Role / Major Arcs
First Research Institute
Mobius serves as the First Research Institute’s central researcher when Chen Ran joins the Flame-Chasers. Blanca introduces Chen Ran to her after discovering his anonymous biological research, and Mobius allows him to work at the institute on Blanca’s recommendation. 6 8 9
Herrscher Core and Divine Right Research
When Chen Ran seeks information on human–Herrscher Core fusion, Mobius confirms that she has already pursued and failed at such experiments. She nonetheless authorizes his research into the Third Herrscher Core, indirectly enabling the subsequent Stigmata-focused work with MEI. 12 17
Genetic Memory Experiments
Mobius begins transcribing anti-Honkai memories into genes, initially producing fatal results in animal subjects. She recruits Chen Ran for a genetic observation experiment, discovers his extraordinary Honkai adaptation and Stigmata, and becomes increasingly invested in studying him. 23 26 27
Chen Ran’s Training and Combat Deployment
Following a successful anti-Honkai memory activation experiment, Mobius has Chen Ran train with the First Squad while Blanca records his daily condition. Her potion enables his body to better utilize Honkai Energy compatibility, contributing to his ability to fight the Fourth Herrscher. Mobius later rejects the First Squad’s request to retain him permanently, insisting that his value lies in research. 38 40 42
Elysian Realm Stigmata Cooperation
In the Elysian Realm, Mobius explains to Wendy that Stigmata research conducted with Chen Ran and MEI concerns the interaction between consciousness, data, and reality. She proposes that Wendy collect Herrscher imprints to fully develop her Stigmata. 48
Trivia
- Mobius dislikes reading emails; even high-level orders are generally copied to Blanca first. 12
- The First Research Institute has very few permanent staff because many personnel transfer away after failing to adapt to Mobius’s personality. 8
- She frequently relies on instant noodles while absorbed in research. 27 28
- Mobius considers Chen Ran’s body more valuable than the Herrscher corpses she previously studied. 42
