Background / History

Asgard was forged into the dominant power of the Nine Realms through Odin's earlier conquests, during which he and his eldest daughter Hela fought amid widespread slaughter. After Hela helped secure the Nine Realms, Odin deemed her too cruel and sealed her away; the kingdom later concealed this history behind revised palace murals. 144

Odin's declining body became a major threat to Asgard's stability. Though Aesir divine power increases with age, Odin's remaining lifespan was short and heavy use of his power pushed him closer to death. He banished Thor to Midgard to prepare him for protecting Asgard through Ragnarok, then entered his final Odin's Sleep. 69 70 77

Odin's decline triggered unrest across the Nine Realms, including small-scale rebellions that Thor, the Warriors Three, and Sif were forced to suppress. Asgard also suffered an infiltration by Angela, who defeated Heimdall and fought through the palace while seeking to assassinate Odin. 82 85

Following Odin's death, Thor ascended the throne, but Hela returned after roughly two thousand years of imprisonment and claimed her right as Odin's eldest daughter. She defeated Thor, killed Volstagg and Fandral, and attempted to awaken her dead army beneath Odin's vault. 143 144

Ron and Audrey intervened during Hela's takeover. Ron defeated Hela, annihilated her revived warriors, and killed Fenrir; Thor subsequently abdicated in Audrey's favor. 145

Asgard then endured successive Ragnarok-related crises: Surtur's invasion from Muspelheim, Kur's fear-fueled campaign through the Heavenly Hammer Venerates, and Mangog's assault. Surtur, Kur, and Mangog were defeated, allowing Asgard to survive Ragnarok with most of its military strength intact. 147 151 153 154

The Golden Palace is Asgard's royal seat, containing the throne room, Odin's chambers, a vast vault, and murals depicting the kingdom's official history. Hela shattered the palace's sanitized conquest mural to expose the bloodshed behind Odin's rise. 143 144

Bifrost

The Bifrost is Asgard's primary means of interrealm and interstellar deployment, operated by Heimdall. It can transport armies to locations throughout the Nine Realms, enabling direct strikes against enemy vital points. 144
