Background / History

Nezuko is the surviving daughter of the Kamado family after Muzan Kibutsuji massacres her relatives. Barely alive at the family home, she repeatedly begs him not to hurt her family before Muzan injects her with demon blood. Tsugikuni Kuuga arrives too late to stop Muzan, while Tanjiro later returns to find Nezuko transformed. 62 63

Following her transformation, Nezuko initially attacks Tanjiro in a feral state. When Giyu Tomioka moves to kill Tanjiro, however, she protects her brother by deflecting his sword, demonstrating that her humanity and familial attachment remain intact. 63 64

Kuuga and Tanjiro bring Nezuko into the Demon Slayer Corps' sphere despite widespread hostility toward demons. At her Hashira trial, Kuuga deliberately exposes her to his Rare Blood and leaves himself defenseless. Nezuko stops herself before biting him, comforts both Kuuga and Shinobu, and is formally accepted into the Corps under the guarantees of Kuuga and the Water Hashira lineage. 104 105

Her fully demonized state compromises this restraint. In that condition, the smell of blood excites her, including Kuuga's Rare Blood, and she nearly loses herself in combat before memories of her mother bring her back. 156 157
