Background / History

Nami was present when Ronan joined Luffy and Zoro at the beginning of the Straw Hat Pirates. She immediately distrusted Ronan’s easy acceptance of Luffy’s invitation and questioned his motives, though she accepted Luffy’s assurance that he was trustworthy. 4

Before fully joining the crew, Nami was driven by money and kept her connection to Arlong hidden. She reacted with fear and anger upon seeing Arlong’s bounty poster, while Ronan recognized that she was carrying a burden she was not ready to share. 32 33 She eventually confessed that the Arlong Pirates had oppressed Cocoyasi Village for eight years and killed her foster mother, Bellemere, then asked the Straw Hats to help defeat them. 43

After Arlong’s defeat, Nami left Cocoyasi Village with the Straw Hats.
