Background / History

Xuan Yang resided on the Sun Star alongside his elder brothers Di Jun and Taiyi. Though he preferred remaining at home to traveling the Primordial World, he repeatedly undertook long journeys to build alliances, collect resources, and alter dangerous future developments. 24

He cultivated relationships with Wangshu, Chang Xi, and Xi He, who became his Dao companions. He also made a token of affection for Wangshu: a zither refined with Ice Silkworm silk and elevated through the Universe Cauldron, later named the Wangshu Qin. 6 7

Rather than treating the Witch Tribe as an enemy, Xuan Yang deliberately sought friendship with it. His physical contest with Zhu Rong won the respect of the Ancestral Witches and established him as a trusted ally of Houtu and her people. 19 279

As Hongjun and the Heavenly Dao became increasingly hostile forces, Xuan Yang built a network of allies through teachings, gifts, strategic counsel, and direct intervention. He provided Zhen Yuanzi and Hongyun with the Dao Proving through Laws Method, guided Nuwa and Fuxi away from Slaying the Three Corpses, helped Houtu prepare the Earth Path and reincarnation, and supported the Human Path's growth. 58 80 126 276

Xuan Yang eventually chose the Heaven-Opening Dao-Proving Method, using the Law of Strength and his Chaos Bead to prove the Dao by force. 395 399 Much later, he entered seclusion again to seek the Primordial Limitless realm, entrusting Grand Xuan Palace and his disciples to the Six-Eared Macaque. 432

Appearance

After proving the Dao, Xuan Yang is described as a calm, imposing cultivator whose ordinary appearance conceals overwhelming power. 432

  • Wears a plain cyan Daoist robe without formation patterns; it became indestructible after long exposure to his aura. 432
  • Has long black hair flowing over his shoulders, moving without wind. 432
  • His calm presence can make powerful cultivators feel as though they face an abyss or the heavens themselves. 502

Personality

Xuan Yang is strategic, patient, and difficult for both allies and enemies to predict. He habitually plans far ahead, often withholding the full purpose of his actions until the proper time. Zhen Yuanzi notes that he rarely acts without a reason, while Nuwa repeatedly relies on his judgment in major decisions. 24 129 143

Despite his calculations, he shows genuine loyalty toward friends and allies. He gives valuable cultivation methods and Pangu's Essence Blood to strengthen those around him, protects the Human Race and Witch Tribe from catastrophic futures, and seeks solutions that let others choose their own paths. 57 221 276

He can also be ruthless when confronting hostile factions. His plans frequently turn apparent rewards—such as the Teacher of the Human Emperor position—into sources of karmic debt and Sha Qi for his opponents. 116 129
