Background / History

Hank initially lived and trained with the young mutants associated with Charles Xavier. His mutation gave him unusually large, beast-like feet and enhanced running speed, but he had no major combat ability beyond that. The visible nature of his feet made him feel like a monster and left him determined to find a way to appear normal. 12 46 47

He developed a serum intended to cure his condition, but recognized that its original formula contained a critical flaw: rather than suppressing his X-gene, it would amplify it and cause further bestial changes. He sought a blood sample from Rorschach as a reference, but Rorschach refused to reveal details of his own biology and instead promised to supply samples from other mutants.
