Background / History
Rorschach first appears among Charles Xavier's young mutants as an outwardly refined Asian boy with a scholarly bearing. Beneath that appearance, he possesses extraordinary physical power, including the ability to lift a car one-handed. He recognizes that “Rorschach” is the name assigned to him in this world. 1
Charles and Erik quickly identify him as unusually mature and as the only young mutant able to control his powers perfectly. They involve him in their CIA-linked mutant recruitment effort and later begin treating him as an equal in strategic discussions. 2 32
His System provides missions and Origin Points, which can unlock Homelander-template progress, improve individual attributes, or unlock and upgrade abilities. His first recorded mission is to protect Bradley from Sabretooth, and he subsequently kills Sabretooth with a swift decapitation. 5 7
Appearance
Rorschach is a young Asian man with a clean-cut, delicate appearance that initially conceals his physical threat. He is repeatedly described as handsome and refined rather than imposing. 1 142
- Possesses a scholarly air comparable to Hank McCoy's. 1
- Has crimson eyes when activating Heat Vision. 19
- Can conceal himself with ordinary clothing, including a hat and trench coat. 20
- Later adopts the public identity and name Homelander in Gotham. 377
Personality
Rorschach is composed, self-assured, and highly private. He avoids disclosing the origins or full extent of his powers, even to allies such as Howard Stark, Hank, and White Queen. 28 40 47 108 His foreknowledge and broad perspective make him a pragmatic planner, particularly when investigating threats such as Decepticons, mutant research groups, and Mr. Sinister. 64 150 235
He rejects both Charles's idealism and Erik's hostility toward ordinary humans. He supports retaliation against those who attack mutants, but does not consider all humans enemies by default. 47 88 89
Rorschach can be protective of his allies and fellow mutants, assigning Hank and Raven meaningful responsibilities and organizing efforts to expose anti-mutant persecution. 100 230 However, he is also ruthless, prideful, and willing to kill enemies or defy established authority without hesitation. His stated principle is that he will repay offense “a hundredfold.” 156 169 386
