Shimura Danzō conspired with Hanzo to kill Sōsuke, but Mu Yue defeated Danzō and Hanzo and took control of Amegakure. Konoha faced mounting pressure from other villages as Kumogakure invaded the Land of Fire, and Minato moved to intercept Fourth Raikage A.

• Rōshi joined Ninshu after Mu Yue discussed its ideals with him, while Hanzo refused Shimura Danzō’s offer to help destroy Ninshu and secretly warned Sōsuke of the plot.
• Hanzo agreed to help Shimura Danzō lure Sōsuke and Nagato to Amegakure, and Danzō received Wood Release through a secret operation tied to Black Zetsu and Tobi.
• Shimura Danzō and Root attacked Mu Yue and Nagato in Amegakure, but Mu Yue and Nagato defeated Danzō, who died after Mu Yue secretly left him with a fatal Blue Flare wound.
• Mu Yue defeated Hanzo in battle and became Amegakure’s leader, then chose to hold Hanzo’s funeral while concealing his own leadership and maintaining ties with Ninshu.
• Hiruzen Sarutobi learned of Danzō’s death and merged Root with Mu Yue’s Anbu Training Squad as news of the death stirred other villages and heightened threats to Konoha.
• Kumogakure sent twelve hundred ninja into the Land of Fire, while Mu Yue began training Shisui and other members of the Anbu Training Squad.
• Mu Yue refused Kitsuchi’s proposals for Ninshu to expand its training, establish a joint academy, accept commissions, or rely on Iwagakure’s protection.
• Minato Namikaze sent most of Konoha’s forces against Kumogakure’s active squads, then led elite ninja to intercept Fourth Raikage A’s force after Shikaku Nara suspected a diversion.

Mu Yue’s Wood Release and battlefield victories made him a target of Uchiha Madara and then a coalition of village leaders. After surviving Madara’s attack and exposing an assassination plot, Mu Yue fought the gathered Kage as Hiruzen Sarutobi’s peace offer failed.

• Minato fought Fourth Raikage A and Killer B, then returned to Konoha and began training with Mu Yue in Wind Breathing.
• Mu Yue revealed his Wood Release to Hiruzen Sarutobi, while Karatachi Yagura invaded the Land of Fire and Yamato began attending the Ninja Academy.
• Mu Yue led Konoha forces against Hidden Mist Village, defeated Karatachi Yagura’s army with Wood Release, and captured Yagura alive.
• Mu Yue reinforced Jiraiya in the Land of Grass, where Uchiha Madara ambushed him and appeared to kill him after a clash of enormous techniques.
• Obito and Shisui awakened their Mangekyō Sharingan, but Shisui’s Restoration Elixir revived Mu Yue, who returned and defeated Madara with Blue Flare.
• Mu Yue and Jiraiya reported Madara’s death, while Ōnoki organized a meeting with the other villages and secretly arranged an attack on Mu Yue.
• The Third Mizukage betrayed the Kage coalition’s plot during its assault on Mu Yue, and Hiruzen Sarutobi offered peace talks that Ōnoki rejected.
• Mu Yue opened the seventh Gate and struck Rasa with a Serious Punch, sending him flying across the battlefield.

After Konoha’s peace with the other villages, Mu Yue faced growing tensions with Ninshu and took on Hiruzen Sarutobi in a duel. Mu Yue defeated Hiruzen, who returned to Konoha considering whether to pass the Hokage position to him.

• Ōnoki agreed to reparations and an alliance, and the Five Kage later ended the fighting and began withdrawing their forces.
• Hiruzen Sarutobi appointed Mu Yue Hokage Advisor and Minato Namikaze Jonin Commander, while Konoha leaders began investigating Hanzo’s death and demanded Sōsuke’s life from Ninshu.
• Mu Yue’s right eye evolved, granting him powers including shrinking objects and attacks, storing black cubes, and entering a time-stopping dimension.
• Konoha’s negotiations with Ninshu failed, and Shisui, Obito, Kakashi, Rin, and Guy told Mu Yue about the Nine-Tails Attack and Uchiha Clan Massacre they had learned of from the future.
• Kakashi and Obito won their ranking battles, while Mu Yue agreed to cooperate with Orochimaru under strict limits on his human experiments.
• Mu Yue accepted Hiruzen Sarutobi’s proposed duel, and the two groups met at the battlefield after Hiruzen declared he would consider Danzo’s matter settled regardless of the outcome.
• Mu Yue’s defenses overcame Hiruzen’s attacks, and he defeated him before healing him and stopping the ensuing fight between Konoha and Ninshu.
• Hiruzen Sarutobi returned to Konoha and considered making Mu Yue Hokage, while Asuma and Biwako spoke in favor of Mu Yue’s leadership.

Mu Yue defeated Hiruzen Sarutobi’s expectations, became the Fourth Hokage, and began reforming Konoha while pursuing Sage Mode. As Ninshu grew, Sunagakure investigated Sasori’s ties to it and Chiyo prepared to contact him.

• Hiruzen Sarutobi announced his resignation and nominated Mu Yue and Orochimaru, then Mu Yue won the jonin vote by a wide margin.
• The Daimyo appointed Mu Yue Fourth Hokage, and Mu Yue named Minato Namikaze Hokage Advisor and Shikaku Nara head of the Jonin Corps.
• Mu Yue secured approval for an expanded Ninja Academy program and arranged for selected Uchiha to take commissioned missions outside the Police Force.
• Mu Yue learned Sage Mode at Mount Myōboku and tested how Sage Art enhanced his abilities after returning to Konoha.
• Obito led a new team and helped its members train, while Uchiha Inabi’s team overcame their suspicions of the Uchiha during a mission.
• Ōnoki challenged Sōsuke and was decisively defeated, leading Iwagakure to reconsider its plans against Ninshu.
• Nagato showed Sasori how his prosthetic work had helped Ninshu, while a Sunagakure spy reported their closeness to Ebizo.
• Chiyo decided to seek Sasori in Six Paths City, while Shisui continued reforming the Uchiha Police Force through better team coordination.
