Background / History

Li Huowang was a psychiatric patient whose recurring “hallucinations” placed him in the world of Qingfeng Temple. There, he became a nominal disciple under Danyangzi and devised a fraudulent immortality pill formula to destroy his master and free the temple’s captives. Danyangzi nevertheless achieved half-immortality because Li Huowang unknowingly made the false formula real through his Heart Seed nature. 2 18 21 395

After escaping Qingfeng Temple, Li Huowang travelled with the Lu Family Troupe and his fellow disciples. He provided for the group, taught Zhao Wu to read, and gradually assumed a position of authority among them. 36 101

His search for Twelfth Month Eighteenth and a way to rid himself of Danyangzi’s influence drove him toward increasing brutality. When a senior brother compared his treatment of Wu Qing to Danyangzi’s cruelty, Li Huowang recognized how pressure and desperation were changing him. 91

Li Huowang later learned from Zhuge Yuan that he was a Heart Seed able to “Cultivate Truth”—turning falsehood into reality—though he initially lacked any control over this innate power. He obtained a cultivation method, tested it on North Wind, and successfully used it to suppress the Illusion. 395 444

Li Huowang is most often identified by his blood-red Daoist robe, weapons, and the increasingly inhuman alterations caused by injury, sacrifice, and his bond with Li Sui. 91 211 714

Li Huowang is practical, observant, and intensely protective of the people he considers his own. He shares food with companions, teaches Zhao Wu to read, equips Gao Zhijian with armor, and establishes Oxheart Village as a permanent home for his fellow disciples. 36 262 310

His protectiveness regularly turns into harsh control. Fear of becoming like Danyangzi, uncertainty over what is real, and the constant threat surrounding his Heart Seed identity make him suspicious and quick to resort to violence. He is conscious of this deterioration and fears becoming desensitized to killing. 91 345 391

Despite his ruthlessness, Li Huowang repeatedly accepts personal suffering to protect others or achieve a larger objective. He sacrifices flesh and organs for power, leaves Bai Lingmiao and Li Sui behind when he expects a mission to be fatal, and directs Oxheart Village’s grain stores toward famine-stricken Daqi. 436 521 715 833
