Background & History

Transmigration and separation from Qian Renxue

Shi Bantian is a transmigrator who settled in Star Soul Village near Heaven Dou City. He met Qian Renxue five years before the story, and his knowledge from Earth—including unfamiliar foods and ideas—helped win her affection. Their relationship was discovered immediately after they consummated it, revealing Qian Renxue's identity as Qian Daoliu's granddaughter and the future Angel God. 1 38 189

Qian Daoliu deemed Shi Bantian unworthy of the Angel bloodline, banished him from Spirit City for life, and separated him from Qian Renxue. Shi Bantian returned to his mountain home resolved to become strong enough to reunite with her. 1 3

Birth of the Seven Gourd Babies

After the separation, Shi Bantian's seemingly weak Seven Star Gourd Vine changed: it bore seven fruits in red, orange, yellow, green, cyan, blue, and purple. The Martial Soul then released a seed that planted itself and grew into seven physical gourds. 1 2

The gourds called him “Daddy,” carried both his bloodline connection and Qian Renxue's aura, and eventually matured into the Seven Gourd Babies. Shi Bantian accepted them as his children, watering and feeding the vine with his essence while raising them alone. 2 3

Fatherhood and growing conflict

Shi Bantian sheltered the young Gourd Babies in Star Soul Village and accepted several injured Ten-Thousand-Year Spirit Beasts—the Demonic Pattern White Tiger, Magic Flame Phoenix, and Mysterious Nether Tortoise—as helpers after they submitted to the children. The beasts watered, fertilized, protected, and cultivated the vine. 6 7

As Da Wa, Er Wa, and later the other children left home to rescue Qian Renxue and their captured siblings, Shi Bantian repeatedly struggled between pride in their courage and fear of Spirit Hall's power. He refused to allow San Wa, Si Wa, and Wu Wa to risk themselves prematurely, but several children departed without his approval. 43 68 92

Battle with Tang Hao and captivity

While searching for Si Wa and Wu Wa, Shi Bantian encountered Tang San, who sought revenge for injuries inflicted by the Gourd Babies. Shi Bantian revealed his seven-ring cultivation, crushed Tang San's Blue Silver Grass, and overwhelmed him with the Seven Star Gourd Vine. 97 98

Tang Hao intervened to save Tang San. Shi Bantian held his own against the Titled Douluo through his Martial Soul True Body, but Tang Hao ultimately defeated him with the Clear Sky Hammer and a powerful lightning attack. The Seven Star Gourd Vine encased its unconscious master in a green cocoon that Tang Hao and Tang San could not destroy. 100 102

During his captivity, the cocoon seized the Hundred-Thousand-Year Blue Silver Emperor Spirit Bone intended for Tang San and fused with it, becoming a giant seven-colored gourd protected by an increasingly powerful vine. 192 193

Awakening and reunion

Shi Bantian eventually awakened inside the cocoon, realizing that his Martial Soul had preserved his life, healed his injuries, and continuously raised his Soul Power. Though initially trapped and unable to escape, he remained focused on rescuing Qian Renxue and finding his children. 237 238

Feedback from the Gourd Babies' growth and battles, combined with the Blue Silver Emperor Spirit Bone's life force, pushed his cultivation to Level 97 and toward a divine breakthrough. Qian Renxue eventually detected his faint aura in the Star Dou Great Forest with her divine sense. 238 253 258

Tang Hao attempted to interrupt Shi Bantian's breakthrough, but the reunited Gourd Babies defended their father. Shi Bantian then awakened fully and reunited with Qian Renxue and all seven children. 261 263 265

Appearance

Before his ascension, Shi Bantian was a young man whose outdoor work left him more muscular, sun-darkened, and refined in bearing. After becoming a god, his body and aura became markedly more majestic and divine. 7 237 269

  • Described as handsome, with sharp features, sword-like brows, and star-like eyes. 237
  • His divine body possesses jade-like skin, radiant hair, and an aura that inspires awe. 269
  • His transformed Martial Soul may appear as a colossal seven-colored gourd or a massive, star-speckled vine. 193 101

Personality

Shi Bantian is deeply devoted to Qian Renxue and measures his growth against his goal of reuniting their family. Qian Daoliu's contempt and the forced separation left him determined to prove that he deserves to stand beside her. 3 41

He is an inexperienced but doting father. He carefully tends the Gourd Vine, teaches his children about the continent, awakens their Martial Souls, and worries intensely whenever they leave to confront Spirit Hall. He would rather risk his own life than allow Spirit Beasts to harm them. 3 6 9 43

In battle, Shi Bantian can be defiant and mocking, particularly toward Tang San and Tang Hao. However, his confidence is rooted in a protective instinct: after gaining divine power, he explicitly places himself between his family and danger. 98 101 273

Abilities & Skills

Seven Star Gourd Vine

Shi Bantian's Martial Soul began as an apparently useless plant-type Martial Soul, but evolved into a vine capable of producing seven colored gourds and manifesting the Seven Gourd Babies. 1 2

  • Produces and maintains the seven Gourd Babies, whom Shi Bantian recognizes as his children. 3
  • Receives cultivation feedback from the children's growth, awakenings, breakthroughs, and battles. 10 42 258
  • Generates Spirit Rings without requiring him to hunt Spirit Beasts. 10
  • Commands thick, durable vines for binding, striking, shielding, and overwhelming enemies. 98 99
  • At seven rings, displayed seven black Ten-Thousand-Year Spirit Rings. 98

Seven Star Gourd Vine True Body

Shi Bantian's seventh Spirit Skill manifests a massive, living vine over a hundred meters long, covered in star-like lights. Its Martial Soul quality causes nearby plant-type Spirit Beasts to react as if acknowledging a superior being. 101

  • Replicates abilities associated with several Gourd Babies, including Da Wa's strength, Er Wa's mental power, San Wa's Indestructible Body, and the Extreme Fire and Extreme Ice of Si Wa and Wu Wa. 101
  • Provided sufficient defense and versatility to contend with Tang Hao's attacks despite Shi Bantian's lower cultivation. 101 102
  • Its fire and ice manifestations were weaker while Si Wa and Wu Wa remained comparatively underdeveloped. 101
  • Did not grant Liu Wa's or Qi Wa's powers until those children had fully come into being. 101

Protective Cocoon and Seven-Colored Gourd Form

After Tang Hao defeated him, the Seven Star Gourd Vine automatically enclosed Shi Bantian in a green cocoon, preventing Tang Hao and Tang San from killing or extracting him. 102

  • Heals Shi Bantian's body and accelerates his Soul Power growth. 237
  • Could not initially be escaped from by Shi Bantian after he regained consciousness. 237
  • Seized and fused with the Hundred-Thousand-Year Blue Silver Emperor Spirit Bone, gaining immense life-force-based power. 192 193 258
  • Transformed into a massive seven-colored gourd while resisting Tang Hao and Tang San's attempts to disrupt the fusion. 193

Seven Star Primordial Creation God

Shi Bantian condensed a God Position through his own power rather than inheriting an existing divine seat, becoming the Seven Star Primordial Creation God. 268 270

  • Ascended to godhood through an act of will despite extreme physical pressure and pain. 268 269
  • Advanced to the level of a God King, surpassing Qian Renxue's First-level Deity status. 270 271
  • His ascension produced power fluctuations felt across the Douluo Continent. 269
  • The Five Great God Kings regard his self-created God Position as significant enough to invite him to the God Realm and potentially become its sixth God King. 276

Equipment / Items

  • Martial Soul awakening kit — Crystal balls and awakening stones left by Qian Renxue; Shi Bantian used them to test the Gourd Babies' Martial Souls and Spirit Power. 8 9
  • Golden bracelet — A keepsake left by Qian Renxue, which Shi Bantian holds while thinking of her and their reunion. 11
  • Hundred-Thousand-Year Blue Silver Emperor Spirit Bone — Originally intended for Tang San; absorbed by Shi Bantian's cocoon and central to his later transformation. 192 193

Relationships

  • Da Wa / Shi Hao — Eldest son. Shi Bantian awakened his Supreme Bone Martial Soul and takes pride in his unprecedented innate Level 30 Spirit Power. 9 10
  • Er Wa / Shi Yi — Second son. Shi Bantian recognizes his Chong Tong and prepares him to travel toward Spirit Hall, while urging him to flee if outmatched. 41 43
  • San Wa — Third son. Shi Bantian is highly protective of him despite San Wa's Indestructible Body Martial Soul. 68
  • Si Wa and Wu Wa — Fourth and fifth sons. Shi Bantian awakened their Emperor Flame and Ice and Snow Soul Martial Souls but refused to let them confront Spirit Hall. 92
  • Liu Wa and Qi Wa — Sixth and seventh children. Shi Bantian worries particularly for them while trapped in the cocoon, believing they may have been left alone. 237
  • Qian Daoliu — Former antagonist who exiled Shi Bantian and dismissed him as unworthy of Qian Renxue. He later seeks to apologize and comes to respect Shi Bantian's divine power. 1 188 276
  • Tang San — Hostile enemy. Tang San attacked Shi Bantian over the Gourd Babies' past actions; Shi Bantian defeated and humiliated him before Tang Hao intervened. 97 100
  • Tang Hao — Tang San's father and Shi Bantian's captor. Tang Hao defeated Shi Bantian as a Spirit Saint, but later failed to prevent his divine breakthrough. 102 261 263
  • Demonic Pattern White Tiger, Magic Flame Phoenix, and Mysterious Nether Tortoise — Ten-Thousand-Year Spirit Beasts that remained at Shi Bantian's home to tend and protect the Gourd Vine. 7

Trivia

  • Shi Bantian initially considered the Seven Star Gourd Vine a “trash” plant-type Martial Soul before its evolution. 98
  • His children’s cultivation directly improves his own, making their growth central to his power progression. 10 258
  • He recognized Tang San as the original protagonist of the Douluo Continent only after Tang San introduced himself during their confrontation. 97
