Background / History

Obito is one of the Empire's “children of destiny” and an Uchiha operative trusted with the first Super S-class cross-dimensional expedition. The Emperor chooses him alongside Kakashi Hatake and Nagato Uzumaki because Twin Kamui can protect the team during transit, carry supplies, and support interdimensional operations. 1

His expedition introduces him to a parallel Ninja World whose treatment of bloodline clans, jinchūriki, and ordinary civilians shocks him. Learning that the parallel Uchiha clan was annihilated, Obito vows to uncover the truth and make those responsible answer for it. 10 30

The narrative also follows a parallel-world Obito: the masked man known as Tobi, who acts as Madara Uchiha's proxy and advances the Eye of the Moon Plan through Akatsuki. This counterpart is responsible for major crimes associated with the Nine-Tails' rampage and is later identified by Naruto as Obito Uchiha. 196 278

The two versions eventually come into conflict. The masked Obito is shaken by the existence of an Empire where Rin is alive and loved, while the Empire Obito becomes a living reminder of the life his counterpart lost. 197 199 202

Personality

Empire Obito is boisterous, proud, and intensely competitive with Kakashi. Seeing Kakashi use Chidori—an Uchiha-suited technique Obito never learned—pushes him into a jealous “Red Hot State,” even after he has displayed Mangekyo Sharingan and Susanoo. 13 14

Despite his immaturity, he is fiercely protective of the Uchiha clan. The parallel clan's destruction angers him, and the persecution of bloodline users convinces him that the Empire's protections for kekkei genkai families are necessary. 10 30
