Background & History

Dugu Wudi led the weakened Heavenly Sword Sect while it remained embroiled in a generations-long feud with the Sword Sect, whose masters had repeatedly driven the Heavenly Sword Sect close to destruction. Before his Dao Fruit breakthrough, he was ranked second on the Heaven Ranking, beneath Monk Yun Kong. He took Lu Chen as his disciple and later entrusted him and Clear Wind Sword Venerable with defending the sect while he entered seclusion. 172 178 179

The appearance of the Dao Fruit drew numerous Heaven Ranking experts to the Heavenly Sword Sect. After refining it, Dugu Wudi emerged from seclusion and struck Yun Kong so swiftly that the monk lost an arm. He routed the assembled experts, destroyed the remnant souls summoned by the Sword Sect Master, and pursued Yun Kong with Lu Chen. 177 178

After defeating the former Heaven Ranking number one, Dugu Wudi resolved to settle old scores by erasing the Sword Sect and Ye Family. His pursuit was later halted after a mysterious golden figure offered him three Golden Sun Grasses in exchange for sparing the remaining Heaven Ranking figures. 179 186

Dugu Wudi subsequently helped Lu Chen locate and destroy Blood Sacrifice Cult strongholds, using his mental strength to expose locations that were otherwise extremely difficult to find. As Lu Chen’s cultivation accelerated, Dugu Wudi became increasingly shocked by his disciple’s achievements but remained protective of him and of the Heavenly Sword Sect. 191 192 200

Dugu Wudi is composed and direct, even when facing figures with far greater status or ancient lineage. He refuses to yield the Heavenly Sword Sect’s leadership to Li Wangshu merely because of ancestral seniority, arguing that the present can surpass the past. 223

He carries deep resentment toward Yun Kong and the forces that repeatedly targeted his sect. After his breakthrough, he rejects Yun Kong’s appeals to preserve the world’s balance and fights with the intent to end their conflict permanently. 179
