Background and History
Lady Fate was created through one of the Supreme Deer God’s games. Their father–daughter relationship was strained: she was ashamed of his foolishness, and changing him was one motive behind her pursuit of the Temple of Fate 1131. In her youth, she began killing her sisters to acquire more Fate Authority. Despite her long existence, she had no friends 946.
Her ambition was to become the Master of Fate and control the fate of life throughout the Boundless Mystery 1030. Rather than drive events openly, she arranged conflicts through marked deities and other chess pieces. Her schemes included the attack on the We Are Light Family, a deal with the Primal Mother and the King of Darkness, and a Game of Fate that set the Lighthouse and Warriors against the Court of Justice 939 996 1035.
For the Final Act, she prepared marked Masters for forced summons into a vast divine war. The resulting ruins and surge of the River of Fate were intended to bring forth the Temple of Fate for her coronation 1046. Tang Qi and Sally disrupted that outcome. Lady Fate failed to seize the other Fate deities’ Authority, lost control of the battlefield, and was consumed by Evil Gods and Spirits before she could stop Sally from reaching the Temple 1076 1077.
Appearance
Lady Fate takes different human forms. In Sessaro’s temple, she appeared barefoot in an ancient-style gown, with black-and-gray braids and a mocking smile 945.
- Gray mist and flickering black Threads of Fate accompany her manifestations 945.
- She later appeared as an old woman with gray-white hair and withered-petal-like ornaments 1037.
- Tang Qi identified her main body as a giant doe 1046.
Personality
Lady Fate is arrogant, harsh, and quick to punish defiance. She treats other beings—including deities—as pieces in her plans, but will restrain her anger when retaliation would breach an agreement or endanger a larger scheme 946 968. Unforeseen events particularly unsettle her because correcting them costs her power 1037.
Abilities & Skills
Fate manipulation
- Holds most Fate Authority and can borrow the power of the River of Fate and its tide 896 1039.
- Uses the Mist and Threads of Fate to observe, contact, and move her chess pieces; her Mark of Fate can summon marked deities when they enter a negative state 922 1039 1046.
- Does not completely control the River of Fate, despite the scale of power she can borrow 1039.
Long-term schemes
- Arranges linked events across pantheons and civilizations, often making others carry out the decisive acts 1030 1035.
- Avoids direct combat. Her direct fighting power is less formidable than the situations she can create through Fate 1028 1066.
- Her reach has limits: the Library can isolate her Mist of Fate, and the Mystic Monarch’s Crown can temporarily block her scrutiny of Tang Qi 922 968.
Relationships
- Tang Qi — Her marked chess piece and eventual opponent. His interventions forced costly revisions to her plans 877 1071.
- Sally — Anchored her life and soul in the Mist of Fate and treated her as a crucial tool. Sally ultimately contested her path to the Temple 896 1077.
- Tum — Held a smaller share of Fate Authority; Lady Fate targeted the We Are Light Family in part to reclaim it 935 945.
- Primal Mother and King of Darkness — Helped the King of Darkness take over the Sky and Thunder Pantheon in exchange for their help extinguishing We Are Light 996.
- Supreme Deer God — Her father and creator, with whom she had a strained relationship 1131.
- Other Fate deities — Became her enemies when her intended ascension threatened to absorb their Authority 1030 1076.
