Background / History
Yu Ji is a spirit born directly from the planet who unexpectedly acquired a corporeal body. Her existence predates many Immortals, Gods, and Huaxia Ancestor Gods. She knew the Three Sovereigns and Five Emperors and witnessed events extending back to the ancient mythological age 163 165 188.
Her ability to read hearts exposed the greed behind people seeking her natural power or the secrets of immortality. Even apparently kind approaches often carried ulterior motives. She withdrew into isolation near the Fusang Tree, and the Ancestor Gods’ efforts to bring her out of that confinement failed 163 188.
During the Investiture of the Gods period, she remained a sleeping observer rather than an active participant. Consequently, she survived among the few ancient beings still present in the Divine Land, but her historical knowledge often covered what happened rather than why it happened 170 183.
Appearance
Yu Ji has a youthful appearance, delicate features, and an ethereal bearing that contrasts with her frequently fierce expressions 158.
- Hair: Long, loose, jet-black hair 158 175.
- Eyes: Crimson or vermilion 163 188.
- Fangs: A pair of sharp fangs, often exposed when she is angry or embarrassed 169 174.
- Usual clothing: Black garments, an exposed waist, and a wide fur-trimmed coat or cloak 158 178.
- Taiyin manifestation: A black robe with wide sleeves and a silk sash around her waist 198.
- Ceremonial clothing: Also possesses regal Queen of Heaven attire, distinct from her original Star Spirit appearance 201.
Personality
Yu Ji is proud, irritable, and openly dismissive of humans, whose endless desires helped drive her into seclusion. Her rejection of others conceals a longstanding sense of being anomalous, unwanted, and without a place to belong. Once she experiences companionship with Rovi, she becomes afraid of losing it 160 163 171.
She often disguises affection as annoyance or obligation: she calls Rovi a “tool,” insists that she is only reluctantly accompanying him, and initially justifies becoming his Queen of Heaven as a duty to the Divine Land. Her attachment nevertheless becomes openly possessive, especially around other women 163 174 188 190.
Her earlier inactivity reflects a lack of purpose rather than a lack of intelligence. Once she decides to become strong enough to stand beside Rovi, she plans independently, withholds the White Emperor’s location for her own undertaking, and cultivates deliberately. Later, she can acknowledge the brilliance of human civilization despite retaining her disdainful language 178 250.
Abilities & Skills
Planet-Linked Immortality
Yu Ji’s life is tied to the planet, allowing her to regenerate repeatedly while it continues to exist 158.
- Can reconstruct her body immediately after self-detonation 185 191.
- Regeneration initially consumes accumulated energy, returning her toward an exhausted state 158.
- Immortality does not make her physically invulnerable or exceptionally strong; her Star Spirit durability remains constant even after her power increases 169 185.
Energy Absorption
She can draw energy directly from the atmosphere and experiences a Star Spirit’s blood-drinking impulse 158.
- Can survive without drinking blood 158.
- Even the atmospheric Aether of the Age of Gods is inadequate to replenish her fully 158.
- Rovi’s mechanical “blood” provides a substantial energy supplement 158.
- Human food supplies taste but no usable energy 175.
Planetary Communication and Perception
Her connection to the planet gives her access to information unavailable through ordinary observation 178.
- Reads hearts, enabling her to recognize concealed greed and intentions 188.
- Acts as a medium for planetary information, transmitting the Six Heavens Old Ghosts’ locations directly into Rovi’s mind 178.
- Can fully bear the planet’s supporting power when confronting threats such as the White Emperor’s chaos 178.
- As Queen Mother of the West, can perceive changes in the world, though perceiving a principle does not mean she understands how to apply it 191.
Ancient Knowledge
Yu Ji remembers secret Huang Lao techniques, ancient immortals’ Qi cultivation methods, and forgotten Xia Dynasty practices 160 161.
- Explains the Fusang Tree, the Nine Cauldrons formation, and other mysteries of the Divine Land 158 165.
- Recounts the Xia Dynasty’s contact with beings beyond the universe and the dangers of the Old Gods 161.
- Offers to teach Rovi cultivation techniques 160.
- Cannot personally practice every method she knows because some are incompatible with her Star Spirit nature 161.
- Her knowledge is often that of an observer; Tamamo no Mae can supply firsthand explanations that she lacks 183.
White Emperor Authority and Combat
After inheriting the White Emperor’s power, Yu Ji embodies the western White Tiger and governs metal nature 182 186 188.
- Uses twin swords to repel Nezha’s incoming spear 185.
- Can hover, but is explicitly unable to fly during her encounters with Nezha and Ereshkigal 185 190.
- Uses metal’s sharpness to pierce through space and return to Dong Hua Palace 190.
- Self-detonation catches Nezha off guard but merely leaves her dusty, demonstrating its limited effectiveness against a durable opponent 185.
- Later outmatches Tamamo no Mae in close combat while wearing Mechanical God Armor 251.
Taiyin and the Peach Tree of Immortality
Yu Ji identifies the peach tree—Yang wood nurtured by Yin from Jianmu’s remains—as a means of embodying the Yang of Taiyin 191.
- Absorbs its seed to manifest a higher, stronger divine form 198.
- Manifests a vast divine peach tree above Dong Hua Palace whose light appears to support the world 198.
- Controls demonic creatures, preventing them from obstructing human development 198.
- The Peach Tree of Immortality eliminates the possibility of the world being pruned because of those creatures 198.
Authority over the Divine Land’s Mysteries
In the later era, Yu Ji controls the mysteries of the Three Realms and wields immense authority over the Disk 248.
- Holds authority over the source of the Divine Land’s mysteries even when appearing in a diminished form 250.
- Represents the Divine Land in Tokyo and announces intervention in the Holy Grail War to retrieve its Heavenly Emperor 250.
Equipment / Weapons / Items
- Twin swords — Her primary demonstrated handheld weapons after becoming the Western White Emperor 185.
- Mechanical God Armor — A golden mechanical treasure made by the First Emperor in imitation of Rovi. It envelops her body and becomes the outward form associated with Xiang Yu; she later uses it against Tamamo no Mae 199 251.
- Rovi doll — A doll she embraces while sleeping and holds anxiously when she wakes without seeing Rovi 174 175.
- Rovi’s magical-treasure collection — Rovi offers her future access as “joint property” to discourage her reliance on self-destruction. The marriage implications of the phrase embarrass her 186.
Relationships
- Rovi / Emperor Dong Hua — Companion, perceived kindred spirit, and romantic partner. His lack of greed or condescending pity allows her to trust him; she eventually regards him as family and pursues greater power to remain beside him 163 178 188.
- Xu Fu — Initially angers Yu Ji by mistaking Rovi for Immortal Yu and calling her his attendant. Yu Ji briefly warms to her sincerity, later treats her as a romantic threat, and ultimately promises her an immortal position in exchange for the peach-tree opportunity 158 159 160 174 191.
- Ereshkigal — Rival for Rovi’s affection and the leading position beside him. Their confrontation motivates both to cultivate their Spirit Foundations; Yu Ji later appears less openly hostile toward her 190 191 201.
- Wuzhiqi — Ancient acquaintance and frequent verbal sparring partner. Wuzhiqi teases her unprecedented attachment to Rovi, while Yu Ji objects to Wuzhiqi’s provocative advances toward him 170 171.
- Tamamo no Mae — Longstanding acquaintance, later ally, and target of Yu Ji’s anger. Their alliance does not prevent Yu Ji from punishing the fox when she discovers her deception 169 248 250 251.
- Nezha — Heavenly Gate guardian whom Yu Ji unsuccessfully tries to bypass and overpower. Nezha’s deliberate mischief contributes to Yu Ji assuming the Queen of Heaven position 185 188.
- Ying Zheng / First Emperor — Creates the Rovi-inspired golden mechanical figures that Yu Ji later uses to pursue reunification. His alternate counterpart recognizes her but lacks records of her stronger Queen Mother of the West identity 198 199.

Trivia
- Rovi identifies her as one of Huaxia’s famous Four Beauties in later generations 158.
- Yu Miaoyi is mentioned as a possible name in historical records, but its accuracy is explicitly uncertain 158.
