Background

Born into Tokyo’s Sajyou family, Manaka was connected to the Vortex of the Root from birth. This link lets her obtain any knowledge she seeks, rendering people, mysteries, and much of the world completely transparent to her. The resulting boredom and inability to relate to ordinary human emotions led her to treat life and other people as games and “NPC-like” entities. Her household fears her power, including her father, Hiroki Sajo. 251 258

While observing the projected Holy Spear Rhongomyniad, Manaka discovered something unprecedented: Rovi was an existence the Root could not fully perceive. Unable to see his death in any possibility or parallel world, she became fascinated by him and resolved to try killing him. 251 255

When Rovi pulled the Throne of Heroes into the world, Manaka confronted him alongside Ryougi Shiki, the Root’s consciousness. While Shiki wanted to absorb Rovi into the Root, Manaka opposed her because Rovi was the first being to genuinely interest her. 254 255
