Power Progression

Stage / Realm / Level Chapter Notes
Ninth Stage Dou Qi 32 Identified as the Xiao Family’s cultivation genius; this was her result in the previous day’s test.
Six-Star Dou Zhe 38 Described as reaching this level less than a year after being at Ninth Stage Dou Qi.
One-Star Dou Wang–level usable power 346 The narration identifies this as the power she can currently wield. She manifests golden Dou Qi Wings and fights Mo Ya, a Dou Emperor. A later recollection calls her underlying realm during this encounter Da Dou Shi, distinguishing her cultivation from her enhanced combat output 435.
Dou Emperor 412 Stops suppressing her strength during the Tree Demon battle. The narration explicitly attributes her increased strength to cultivation since her earlier confrontation with Mo Ya.

Appearance

Xun’er’s beauty is compared to a green lotus, and she is considered evenly matched with Nalan Yanran in appearance 32.

  • Eyes: Naturally black; flickering golden flames cover them when she invokes her heavenly flame 346.
  • Clothing: Wears jade-green robes during her battle at the Black Emperor Sect and a gray robe after the Tree Demon incident 346 418.
  • Build: Slightly shorter than Nalan Chaoge 415.
  • Public reputation: Her beauty and popularity draw enormous tournament crowds; nearby arenas are cleared to accommodate her spectators 376.

Personality

Xun’er’s attachment to Xiao Yan governs many of her decisions. She delights in praise of his talent, worries about his journeys, and provides cultivation resources even when doing so leaves her without Fire Energy. Her protectiveness can become ruthless: she briefly orders Nalan Chaoge’s assassination before withdrawing the command, and later personally attempts to kill him as a perceived threat to Xiao Yan 328 396 430.

She is resourceful in both combat and negotiation. Against Mo Ya, she conceals her decisive attack until he closes in; in the Library Pavilion, she uses a rare technique to bargain for Chaoge’s assistance. She also honors an acknowledged debt by surrendering that leverage when he invokes her promise 346 383 384.

Although initially defensive about arranged marriage and Nalan Yanran’s choices, Xun’er eventually admits that she judged Yanran unfairly. She recognizes Yanran’s courage in resisting an unwanted future and promises to apologize in person 38 433.

Abilities & Skills

Golden Emperor Burning Heaven Flame

Xun’er wields the Gu Clan’s inherited heavenly flame, described as capable of burning Dou Qi itself. Even her child-flame portion poses a serious threat to stronger opponents 346 366.

  • Burns Mo Ya’s hand and enables her to threaten a Six-Star Dou Emperor despite their strength gap 346 366.
  • Destroys Kimimaro’s bone spike and burns away Xiao Yi Xian’s poison mist 366.
  • Overwhelms the Green Lotus Core Flame Chaoge uses to protect Kimimaro; he must seal the attacking flames instead 366.
  • Can be transferred into another person. Xun’er uses this to attack Chaoge internally and later retains a means of igniting a child-flame origin left within him 396 434.
  • Breaks the Tree Demon’s restraints despite their ability to stagnate a captive’s Dou Qi and numb the body 415.
  • Can be controlled without harming someone it surrounds, as demonstrated when she treats the lingering golden-flame mist on Chaoge’s arm 407.

Emperor Seal Art: Mountain Opening Seal

A secret Gu Clan art whose five combined seals can rival a Heaven-tier battle skill. Xun’er uses the Mountain Opening Seal at close range against Mo Ya 346.

  • Conceals the attack until Mo Ya catches her by the throat, then blasts him into the ground 346.
  • Would have killed him without his Earth-tier protective armor 346.
  • Consumes so much energy that she can barely execute it once at that point in the story 346.

Divine-Grade Dou Di Bloodline

Xun’er possesses an ancient emperor bloodline recognized by the Library Pavilion’s guardians. Together with her heavenly flame, it underlies her exceptional potential and concealed strength 346 382 435.

  • The narration states that awakening the bloodline alone could raise her to Dou Zong; this is potential, not a documented breakthrough 435.
  • Her heritage is a guarded clan secret. Facing capture by Mo Ya, she prepares to die rather than allow outsiders to obtain her bloodline or clan information 346.

Flight and Mental-World Intrusion

  • Dou Qi Wings: Manifests golden wings threaded with heavenly flame to retreat from Mo Ya 346.
  • Mental-world intrusion: Immobilizes Chaoge and enters his mental world to interrogate him about his identity and rapid cultivation 396.
  • Limit: After Yao Chen restrains her invading flame, Chaoge’s control over his own inner realm and superior Dou Zong strength allow him to overwhelm her 396.

Equipment & Resources

  • Na Ring — Stores her belongings and cultivation resources. After the Tree Demon incident, she has no spare clothing inside and must borrow Chaoge’s robe 415 429.
  • Tou She Ancient God Jade — Xiao Yan gives her the Xiao Family’s jade fragment as a romantic commitment. She still carries it when Old Man Mu Gu attacks her returning escort 429 436.
  • Nine Heavens Dragon Phoenix Art — A high-grade Earth-tier cultivation method obtained through Chaoge’s help in the Library Pavilion; she subsequently gives it to Xiao Yan 386 432.
  • Heavenly Corpse Bone Vein — Finds this high-grade Earth-tier technique in the Pavilion, then gives it to Chaoge to settle her debt for his mercy toward Xiao Yan 383 384.
  • Nalan Treant’s gifts — Receives cultivation crystals, magic cores, and medicinal herbs. She shares a crystal with Xiao Yan to support his advancement 418 429.
  • Seventh-rank magic cores — Trades an earth-attribute core for the Green Wood Immortal Vine and Fire Energy; later gives Xiao Yan a water-attribute core 431 432.
  • Sealed clan inheritance scroll — Gives Xiao Yan a clan battle skill that cannot be opened until he reaches Dou Wang, warning him not to use it before her clansmen 432.

History

Childhood and the Xiao Family

Xun’er is sent away from the Gu Clan while young and raised with the Xiao Family in the Northwest. Her mission is to obtain the Xiao Family’s Tou She Ancient God Jade, but she develops a lasting attachment to Xiao Yan during her childhood there 403 433 435.

She initially understands Xiao Yan’s nighttime childhood visits as attempts to nourish her meridians. Chaoge later challenges whether a child who had only begun cultivating could have known such a method. This becomes a recurring source of doubt for her, without immediately ending her affection 403 422 431.

During Nalan Yanran’s engagement dispute, Xun’er defends Xiao Yan. Chaoge asks whether she would obey an arranged marriage to someone other than Xiao Yan; she claims that she would follow her father’s wishes. Their disagreement later becomes a wager: if Chaoge obtains a marriage contract from Gu Yuan, she must marry him 38 376.

The Three-Year Pact’s Aftermath

Xun’er sends Ling Ying to assist Xiao Yan. On returning, he reports the destruction of the Xiao Family, Mu Chen’s rebellion, and Xiao Yan’s decision to travel through the Black-Corner Region alone. She is devastated by the family’s deaths but concludes that the Nalan Family was likely framed 328.

Ling Ying’s account also undermines her confidence that Xiao Yan surpasses Chaoge: Chaoge fought three opponents and subdued the powerful soul within Xiao Yan. Angered while recalling their earlier marriage argument, she briefly orders Ling Ying to kill Chaoge, then retracts the command 328.

Black Emperor Sect Confrontation

Mo Ya attempts to overpower Xun’er at the Black Emperor Sect. She wounds him with her heavenly flame and lands the Mountain Opening Seal, but his armor saves him. Exhausted and facing another Earth-tier attack, she prepares to kill herself rather than be captured. Chaoge arrives, intercepts the attack, and tells her to extinguish the flames 346.

Academy Tournament and Library Pavilion

Xun’er defeats her tournament opponent with a single palm strike and registers the absent Xiao Yan for the selection competition. When he returns, she publicly embraces him, then attempts to stop his confrontation with Chaoge 376 379.

She explains that a mind-controlling Soul Body—not Chaoge—destroyed the Xiao Family. Together with Xiao Yu, she appeals for Xiao Yan’s life and promises Chaoge a favor. He agrees to spare Xiao Yan after receiving an apology to himself and Nalan Yanran 380.

Xun’er subsequently brings Chaoge to the Library Pavilion. Their treasure hunt becomes a negotiation over the Heavenly Corpse Bone Vein and an Earth-tier cultivation method. She ultimately relinquishes the Bone Vein when he invokes her promised favor 381 383 384.

Their cooperation does not eliminate their hostility. Under the guise of helping retrieve the Heavenly Poison Scripture, Xun’er channels flame into Chaoge, immobilizes him, and demands his secrets. Despite previously clearing him of direct responsibility, she now blames his rivalry with Xiao Yan for contributing to the Xiao Family’s fate. Yao Chen’s intervention enables Chaoge to survive and defeat her within his mental world 395 396.

Tree Demon Incident

During the journey to the Inner Academy, Xun’er reveals Dou Emperor strength while fighting a Seventh-Rank Tree Demon. She rescues Xiao Yan from a root draining his Dou Qi, but his subsequent capture distracts her, allowing the demon to seize her as well 412.

She breaks free of its restraints with the Golden Emperor Burning Heaven Flame. Having lost her clothing and carrying no replacements, she borrows Chaoge’s robe before rushing to Xiao Yan’s side—an appearance that fuels his jealousy 415.

Strained Affection and Continued Support

In the Inner Academy, Xun’er begins reassessing Xiao Yan’s childhood behavior and his lack of response to rumors linking her with Chaoge. Nevertheless, his public affection reassures her, and she accepts the Tou She Ancient God Jade while continuing to support his cultivation 422 427 429.

Their relationship suffers another setback when Xiao Yan criticizes her lack of Fire Energy, unaware that she gave him all of hers. His later physical advances revive her doubts about the childhood visits, and she pulls away. She still gives him valuable resources and unsuccessfully tries to reconcile him with Chaoge 430 431 432.

Departure and Ambush

Before returning to her clan, Xun’er works on the academy road project to earn Fire Energy for Xiao Yan. In conversation with Chaoge, she acknowledges that Nalan Yanran deserves an apology. The farewell is interrupted when Ling Quan arrives with Gu Clan riders and orders her immediate return 433.

Ling Quan attacks Chaoge over their rumored relationship. Xun’er’s flame and Chaoge’s previously planted Amaterasu countermeasure activate against one another, exposing the safeguards each had secretly left in the other’s body. She orders Ling Quan to stop as the confrontation escalates 434.

Xun’er and Chaoge ultimately agree to remain friends and part with an embrace. She affirms that her years of love for Xiao Yan outweigh her unresolved doubts. Xiao Yan secretly witnesses the farewell and mistakes it for betrayal 435.

Outside the Black-Corner Region, Old Man Mu Gu ambushes her escort to seize the jade. Ling Ying intervenes, allowing her to escape. Xun’er suspects Yao Chen may have revealed its location but cannot reconcile that suspicion with his role as Xiao Yan’s teacher 436.

Relationships

  • Xiao Yan — Childhood companion and enduring romantic attachment. She supports him with techniques, magic cores, cultivation crystals, and Fire Energy despite growing doubts about his behavior 429 430 432 435.
  • Gu Yuan — Father and Gu Clan authority. His power to arrange her marriage forms the basis of her wager with Chaoge 376 403.
  • Ling Ying — Loyal guardian and emissary. Rescues Xiao Yan on her orders and later protects her from Old Man Mu Gu 328 436.
  • Nalan Chaoge — Rival, rescuer, bargaining partner, and ultimately acknowledged friend. Their rumored romance is not established as a relationship; they explicitly settle on friendship before her departure 346 383 396 435.
  • Nalan Yanran — Initially condemns her decision to end the engagement, then admits she owes her an apology and admires her courage 38 433.
