Background

Tang Hao secretly watched over Tang San after sending him to Nuoding Academy. He initially remained hidden while Tang San absorbed the Four-Hundred-Year Mandala Snake Spirit Ring, prepared to intervene if the attempt failed; Tang San's success convinced him that Master’s theory had merit. 11

He later met Master in person and entrusted Tang San to him before leaving. Tang Hao believed Tang San’s future could not be ordinary, and that keeping his son beside him would only endanger him. Before departing, he left Master a six-symbol token and stressed that Tang San was his son. 19

Tang Hao knew Xiao Wu was a Ten Thousand Year Spirit Beast Transformation because his wife, Ah Yin, had been one as well. Although he briefly considered preserving Xiao Wu for Tang San's future Spirit Ring and Soul Bone, memories of Ah Yin made him reject the idea. 19

Appearance

Tang Hao is initially depicted as ragged and desolate, making him difficult to recognize as the famed Clear Sky Douluo. 19 After removing his hidden injuries, he is missing his right hand and left leg, though he can form temporary replacements from Soul Power. 147 157

  • Often appears disheveled and dressed inconspicuously. 19 121
  • Bears the lasting loss of his right hand and left leg. 147
  • Possesses a red Hundred Thousand Year Spirit Ring. 121

Personality

Tang Hao is fiercely protective of Tang San. He secretly guards his son, entrusts him to Master when he believes separation is necessary, and immediately abandons strategy when Tang San is threatened. 11 19 122

His devotion to Ah Yin governs many of his choices. He refuses to exploit Xiao Wu because of Ah Yin’s past, remains beside Ah Yin at the Ice Fire Yin Yang Well, and pushes himself to extremes when Mo Bai targets her. 19 147 159

He is also patient and calculating in vengeance. Rather than openly declare war on Spirit Hall, he spends years eliminating participants in the hunt for Ah Yin one or two at a time while concealing his involvement. 87
